Can't claim colony!?

GC 1.02 - I started out as UK, with a coaling station in Sekondi (Gold Coast), and then I constructed the colonial fortress in Acra, trading post in Togo and a mission in Kumassi, and I still can't claim the colony. There is no obvious reason for this (eg no other colonial claims, enough cash). I can mail the saved game to anyone interested.

To claim a colony there are assorted ways of doing so:

• If the colony consists of 4 or less provinces, you need to have colonial buildings in all of them to claim.
• If it has more than 4 provinces and you have at least one building of each of the four types, and other nations have colonial buildings in all the remaining provinces you can claim.*
• If you don't have one of each type, you need to fill the colony with your colonial buildings, not letting other nations have any, in order to be able to claim.

*I'm not sure what happens with inland colonies, where you can't build coaling stations (which have to be by the sea (or in 1.02, next to Lake Tchad)). Perhaps such areas only need to have one of the three others types to be eligible for this kind of claiming.

Mishko, in order for you to be able claim that colony, you or someone else has to build colonial buildings in Kintampo, Yendi, Abomey and Nikki as well as the places you already have covered, since they all belong to the same colony (if my notes are correct).

I am having the same problem claiming Namibia. I'm the Ottoman Empire, and I built one of each kind of building in four of the provinces. Rafiki, are you saying that every province has to have a building? So even if the Ottomans control one of each kind of building, the state has to be filled up with buildings? The tooltip clearly states that you need to control all the buildings OR one of each kind. It doesn't say that all the other provinces have to have buildings if you control all four kinds of building.

I was trying to include a picture, but it appears that you can only include a picture which is on a website, which I don't have.

So if there has to be a building in each province of the state, why is Britain constructing buildings in Namibia? The Turks already have constructed all four kinds. On the day that the British finish constructing their buildings, the Turks are going to claim the colony. The British are spending large amounts of cash and resources for nothing.

This happened to me too - in a 7 province colony, I built one of each type of building but could not claim.
I figured "the rules" had been changed (undocumted patch "feature"?), and the tooltips just had not been updated.....

jezuskryst, that's what I'm saying. I'm guessing that colonial claiming ruløes have been tweaked and that the tool-tip hasn't followed suit. To speculate, that might be because patches won't add new language to the game, only functionality and bugfixes.

Ok, you're right. I continued the game and waited for the British to colonize the rest of the state. Then, I claimed it. The tooltip also says that doing this might bring you into conflict with other nations which have stakes in that colony, but the Turks had +145 relations with Britain before claiming, and +145 relations right after claiming Namibia. So the British obviously didn't care at all that they had just spent so much money for nothing.

And yes, my name causes a reaction from almost everybody who sees it. Maybe I should use a different name, so as not to offend anyone. But I like this name. I've never seen anybody else using it anywhere on the net. It's unique, so I don't have to put jezuskryst1 or jezuskryst2004 or jezuskryst_xnvc!&3 or anything. You're the first person in this forum who even said anything, and you're not even freaking out. That's one reason why I like this forum. Nobody goes nuts or freaks out at me for using this name.

I've had the same experience; no change in relations even if you've claimed what they have used years and loads of reseources to build up. I hope this is something that will be improved. It could/should decrease the prestige from claiming the colony, give e.g. a -30 relation change vis-à-vis the original owner for every claim you've "stolen" and/or give some badboy.
