Can someone help 'cuz I can't open my files in the europa universalis folder. The first time I opened the folder there was only white icons with windows logos and when I doubleclicked I was asked what i wanted it linked to or something. I linked it to Words (I think) but still I couldn't open it. After that I somehow changed it to excel or wordpad or sometthing, still not working.
Please, can someone help me? I'm far from an expert programmer so explain good!

I would appreciate help!

Not sure why you can't just double-click and choose 'WordPad' to edit it, but...

Renaming the file depends on if you're letting Windows hide file extensions or not. If you can see the .eug portion of the file name, then right-click on the file and choose 'Rename', or highlight the file and press 'F2' and type away. :)

When you change the extension, Windows will ask if you are sure you want to do it -- say yes.

Just do what You did before, but instead of choosing Word, choose Wordpad from the list.

I can't see extensions on my computer (extensions is exe and txt and things like that, right?)
I tried to change the name and add txt, but it didn't work.
Something's really weird...
But probably it's just that I don't understand things like this good enough...

Is there another way to fix it?
 
To 'turn on' file extensions, open Windows Explorer. Then go to 'Tools' in the menu bar and choose 'Options...'

Uncheck 'Hide file extensions for known types', then OK, and you should be good to go.
 
ok, either what Hartmann said or jls211 worked. Do you think it will work if I uninstall it and the reinstall it?
Hartmann's solution didn't work because when a doubleclick on a file it opens, but some error messages appear and the document is completely empty.
jls211's solution didn't work because I didn't find 'Hide file extension for known types' in the options folder. I have the Swedish version, that might be why... :(
I unchecked everything there was but it didn't work.

So, do you think everything will work if I uninstall and reinstall?

BTW thanks for all your help even if it didn't work, you're really good!
 
Sounds like you've already associated that file extension with something else. Assuming you have a two-button mouse ;), you can:

1. Left-click once on the file to highlight it.
2. Hold down the Shift key and right-click on the same file.
3. The shortcut menu that appears should have 'Open With...' in it, left-click on it.
4. When the Open Program box appears, scroll down the list to WORDPAD.EXE and select it. (You can check the box below to 'always open files of this type' with WORDPAD.)

It should then open the file with WordPad. BTW, unless you're running NT, Notepad won't open anything larger than 2MB. Best of luck!
 
I didn't find 'Hide file extension for known types' in the options folder. I have the Swedish version, that might be why... <images/smilies/frown.gif>

Currently I have an English version installed, but I believe it's called 'visa filtyper' or something similar. It's on the second tab (andra fliken).

Anyway, if your already there, go to the third tab and find the entry which opens up .eug files and remove it. Next time you try to open a .eug choose wordpad instead.
 
Glad your problem is fixed! Used to do computer technical support and network admin jobs -- but most of what I learned is by playing around with stuff. It all comes with time and a bit of curiosity... though some things can really mess your computer up (regedit comes to mind). :)
