Can't form generic retinues

A quick question:
For some reason I can only form cultural retinues (housecarls, playing 769 scenario, year 821), and the generic ones are all greyed out. Does this have something to do with the mod? How do I get them?

I have Legacy of Rome ticked in the Launcher.

There are no generic retinues. There are only cultural ones.

I'm norse, and yes, I do have three kinds of housecarls. Thank you, that answers my question.
