i Just bought eu2 and it won't work it just comes up as a black screen i have heard about changing the name of the AVI file but i don't know where it is i looked in the strategy first folder but i didn't see it

In your main EU2 folder, which should be called "Europa Universalis 2", there is a folder called "Avi". Delete it. That'll stop the game playing any intro movies, and if that's where your problem lies it should be fixed.

bink video player (needed to play the intro) is not always compatible with every version of windows.(it's in the manual)
the problem you have reminds me of a similar problem i had, if it is this, all you have to do is alt+tab when the screen goes black, then ctrl+alt+delete, to get that menu, and then stop the bink video player: the game will load and you'll be able to play

thanks for the info i had to do a seach of all my c drive folders for avi files and it finally showd up
and i have gone on to start my first game as the koreans and im pretty much just waiting for china to get bored of me and destroy me it has a 102 thousand man army just across the border with my 18 thousand man army
