I'm just starting the game and I've lost about three Quick Battles in a row, and I don't think it's necessarily because of poor maneuvering.
To whit: my ships seem to fire one broadside to the enemy's two, often holding their fire for long stretches of time, and when they do fire, they don't seem to do an awful lot of damage.
This may be because I'm burning through roundshot at extreme ranges, or otherwise not optimizing my firepower, but the game provides very little feedback as to what I might be doing wrong. If it's a question of setting battle sail, or something similar, it would be nice to have that option while in RTS mode.
(Note: I set my campaign difficulty setting for the battles to "Simulation", assuming that this would make gunnery more difficult and more realistic both for me and the AI, but maybe this was not a good assumption. I don't know if that would affect the QB)
Edit: Having played a bit more, I think I see what the problem was: the ship's skill rating makes a very dramatic difference, as does making sure that you fire very close to the center of your arc.
