What could be the reason for a mesh not being able to get imported into the asset editor?

I have already created a couple of assets without any issues. But sometimes I can't get a simple mesh to work.

Tried everything from freezing transformation, delete history (Maya that is), mesh cleanup, triangulate all the polygons, etc...

Also it doesn't seem to matte if the mesh is closed or if it has open edges. Nothing works.

I am losing my mind on this.
 
Make sure the mesh is one object, is selected and it's the only thing that's exported (as opposed to the entire scene). And make sure it's exported as .fbx 2014/15 version.
