I recently bought the UK version of the game and when I tried to install it, it only went to 27% of the installation process and stopped with the message;
Component transfer error
Component: Core files
File group: common
File: D:\data2.cab
Error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)

I checked on the forum if there was a solution for this problem but couldn't find any.

What to do?

A cyclic reduncancy check is an integral part of any file containing compressed data (such as .ZIP files or .CAB files), and is used to check if not a single bit in the file is different from the original data, and has it's origin in data transers through analog modems.

When it is produced when your data file is stored on a CD, then it can mean three things:

1) The data file on the CD itself is physically damaged, in which case the CD should be replaced.
2) When the publisher produced the cabinet file with it's installation generation program, the file has been damaged before the CD mastering process. This means that all CD's from the publisher will show the same defect. This is not likely, because it implies the publisher has been producing CD's without first validating that the master is correct. No respectable publisher would ever do that.
3) While the data is transferred from CD to your hard drive for decompression, the data stream is altered. This can be causes by anti virus software running in the background. If you have such software, temporarily disable it and run the installation again.

Make sure you have the latest driver for your CD-rom drive.
