hi all, just bought EU II, but i cant for the life of me
manage to install it.

the problem started with the install script complaining that it
couldnt install the setup.inx.

so i checked around in this forum and discovered that my toshiba
CD-player was at fault. so, i moved the CD into my dvd player
(creative) and tried to install again. But now it complaints that
it cant install as c:\program files\common files\installshield\engine\intel 32\ikernel.exe already exists.

so i deleted the installshield directory hoping that would fix it.
but no, it still complaints that the file exists.
so i started regedit and removed the reference to the ikernel.exe
file, removed the installshield directory again (which it created when i tried to install the second time), restarted and tried again.
but it STILL complaints that :\program files\common files\installshield\engine\intel 32\ikernel.exe exists.
which it doesnt, but the install script does install the file when
it complaints that it cant...i dont get it :(

any help is greatly appriciated

regards
kenneth

the third post is about the Setup.inx problem.

try this, it might just install despite you have a different problem.

Also, make sure you can see all files in Windows Explorer (tools, folder options, view, etc.) and then search again for the file. It's possible you don't see it because it is an hidden file.

Similar problem

I've had a similar thing. I got EU2 in Oslo recently and was raring to play it on getting back to England today despite massive sleep deprivation. Imagine my despair when I fell at the first hurdle with that bloody setup.ini problem. From the error message it seems that it should be in a folder within C:/windows/temp. Needless to say, it isn't. It looks to be on the CD itself, but the installer doesn;t seem to be able to place it. Please can someone help out, I can't return the game because Oslo's too far away and would be chagrinned to buggery if it couldn't be made to run somehow.

thnx for the tip viper37, but i have already tried that.
(and i have the option "show all files" enabled).

but it gave me the same error message about ikernel.exe already
existing :(

i have also, tried:
scandisk
defragment
disk cleanup
remove installshield directory
check registers for any references to ikernel.exe (there were none)

and then reinstall, but no go...sigh..

the things is, that the game installs on my other computer
(my other computer consist of older parts, that i have replaced
in my primary machine), but its kinda slow, so i really want it
installed on my primary machine...sigh...im almost outa ideas :(

nappy:
search the registry for "ikernel" and delete any keys you find containing this, but before that, make sure you make a backup of your registry, just in case (Regedit, registry menu, export, give it a name and save (make sure you select all branches).

Also searche for Europa or Vision Park and delete all those keys. The only possible explanation is that there's something in the registry.

You could also try installing the game in Safe mode, but I'm really not sure it will work.

tried looking for anything that had anything to do with:
paradox
ikernel
vision park
europa

in the registry, but appart from the 1.03 patch that i had
downloaded (but obviously not instlled yet), there was no nothing.

as for safe mode..hmmm.. havent tried that, but...i have my
doubts as well. but.. ill give it a shot...if it doesnt work,
the only thing i can think of is reinstall win98...which is
not an option :)
all things considered, if i dont manage to install the game
withouth reinstalling windows ill return the game to the shop
where i bought it (in norway).

anyways, thanks for trying to help me, appriciate it :)

I'm sad it doesn't work. I don't have anymore ideas coming right now, but keep looking here, someone might think of something.
