Scandinavian version. Can't read setup.inx from CD (Fatal scratch on my CD)

(Sorry about posting this on multiple areas, didn't notice the support forums weren't among Europa Universalis II ones)

I am a games reviewer for a finnish computer magazine named MikroBitti, and recently received a copy of this game (EU2). It's an ordinary copy from a store though, not a special review edition.

However, the CD seems to have a rather fatal scratch on it, and at least the file setup.inx is unreadable, effectively making the installation impossible. I don't have the time required to start sending the CD back and forth to be swapped (deadline approaching), and thought someone could perhaps toss me the file? From what my judgement says, copying it to temp\{cd_serial}\setup.inx should make the installation possible.

Any help in this would be greatly appreciated. I'm sincerely hoping that setup.inx is the only file not readable on this CD.

Thanks in advance,

I will ask you to e-mail Patric Backlund at support@europa-universalis.com

He be able to mail you the correct file. I don't have the retail CD (only beta) so I can't mail you this file (it might not be the same version).

Hmm, got the same problem with the retail version. :(

is it the Nordic version or the US one?

I hope there's nothing seriously wrong...

when you try the suggestion in the Running problems thread about reducing your CD-ROM cache, does it work?

I tried them out... To no avail. :(

Hi.

I got my copy of EU2 today. I ordered it over the internet. My problem is that the game won't install. Whenever i try to install it it says "setup.inx cannot be found". Is this a common error and can something be done to fix it? Or will i have to send the CD back?

The CD looks fine. No scratches or anything.

I have a Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook P3 700 Mhz, 128 MB ram and 10 GB harddrive, standard graphic/sound card. The system worked fine with EU1. Using Windows 98 SE.

I have tried to copy setup.inx to the specified folder but it can't be read from the CD.

could you please confirm that you are all using the Nordic version released by Vision Park?

I need to talk to Patric about this but I need to be sure you're using this version... You are now three to have the same problem and it seems serious.

This is a compatibility issue with some CD readers and the copy protection on the Scandinavian version only.

You can get a replacement file here: http://www.paradoxplaza.com/files/patches/setup_inx.zip

Try to copy the whole installation to the hd and install from there. Put the downloaded setup.inx in the same folder and off you go. I just tested it and it works like a charm.

Don't copy the *.vpp files though

If you choose to make a custom installation and play music from the CD you will have to edit the music.ini file after installation. Just change as follows:

####My installation####

[Common]
music=c:\Program Files\Europa Universalis 2\MUSIC

####Change to####

[Common]
music=X:\MUSIC

Where X is the drive letter for your CD rom drive. After that you can delete all the installation files you copied manually from the CD.
