When I try to install Hearts of Iron, I get the following message when the process is about 80% done:
"An I/O error occurred while installing a file. This is normally caused by bad installation media or a corrupt installation file." Then I have to abort.
This doesn't sound like the kind of thing that can be worked around, so is this hopeless? I got the game from Amazon.com which doesn't take returns if the box is opened. Will Paradox replace it for me?

Thanks!

Can you give us a little more info.
What is the operating system:
What version of the game is it? Strategy First?
Sound and Video card.
System specs ...

Okay I see you just posted them.
The user account you are trying to install with, does it have Admin function?

Look for the logo on the box.

Yup. That's the North American version.

Do you have enough space on the hard drive you're installing to? Keep in mind that WinXP reserves a certain amount of space for virtual memory...and the default amount is usually quite large.

Have you tried removing all files and then starting the install again?

If you look at the surface of the CD ( the underside of it where there aren't any logos) do you see any obvious flaws, fingerprints, etc on it?

Just checking in case it's something like that...otherwise I'm fairly sure SF will have no objections to helping you out with a swap. You can contact them by going to http://www.strategyfirst.com/en/support/
