I ran the setup.exe file and everything seemed to be going fine until the installation bar got to 99% complete. Then I got some error message that I can't recall. I've subsequently tried to install again multiple times, but each time I get the error message "setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application".

I'm running Windows XP professional with a Pentium M (?) processor.

Well I have heard of two other people that had the same thing, It apeared to be a virus on the system, or had a virus cleaned from the system that deleted system files.

You could try and copy the whole CD to the HD and install from there as a test.
 
If that does not work the user can try and repair their windows installation by running the repair option in the console.......

I found out that a virus had killed a critical windows file on a PC of mine a while ago and that fixed the problem.

Or if they know what file is missing, they can extract it from the cab files.....

Tried to copy the CD to HD

I got the error message <<Cannot copy data2: Data error (cyclic redundancy check).>>

That was the original error message I received when I first tried to install the program and it hung at 99% completion. If it means anything, the files were just about 99% copied to the HD when I got the error message this time.
 
When you say copied to the hard drive, do you mean you tried to install them or your tried to manually copy them over to the HD so you could try installing from there?
 
Have you tried cleaning the disk with windex or an eyeglass cleaner?
