No matter how many times I try to install the patch (1.2 or 1.3) it allways says CK is not installed. I have reinstalled from CD 3 times and it always does the same thing.

Also are you sure you have the correct patch for your version.
Who is the publisher, their logo will be on the CD.

The publisher is Strategy First. What string do I adjust in the registry to make sure it's got the right path?
I would suggest buying the game from a legit retailer.
