I had some problem during the update of Direct X and I had to reboot. Then, it seemed I couldn't resume the installation. So, I wanted to uninstall the game and install it again. At this point I made an error. Since I couldn't find the uninstall tool, I merely deleted the game files on my HD.

But now, I can't install the game any more. I get only the choices "play" (of course, it doesn't work) and "uninstall" .And when I click on "uninstall", I'm told that the task is completed but nothing change. I'm still stuck with "play" and "uninstall".

I'm surely dumb...But could someone help me?

You have to do some different things to purge EU from your system.

You have to manually delete a key in your registry. You do that by starting regedit (Start => Run => regedit => Enter) and navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Paradox Entertainment" and delete the Europa Universalis key. It looks like a folder in regedit.

You also have to delete some installation files.

InstallShield creates a directory where it keeps all the information on installed software. On my machine it is 'C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information'

'InstallShield Installation Information' is marked as hidden so to be able to find it you have to change folder options on you PC to show hidden files. Search for files containing 'Europa' in this directory and you will find a file called 'setup.ini' with the following content:

[Startup]
AppName=Europa Universalis
Engine=0
Copy=1
Source=0
[Languages]
Default=0x0009
count=1
key0=0x0009

On my PC this resides in: 'C:program FilesInstallShield Installation Information{A6F1BDF7-53A7-4AF6-84B9-0C51C722BC91}'. I'm not sure if the last directory name will be the same on all machines but I think so. Delete that directory and you will be able to make a clean install.

Thanks, Patric

Actually, a friend of mine solved the problem meanwhile, in the way you explained (At least for the first part...I don't think he did the second part. Anyway, I've been able to reinstall the game thereafter.

I'm sorry you took the time to write all this while my problem was solved, but anyway it could be useful to someone else (and actually, I will bookmark this page for a possible future use. I can't say I understood very well what my friend was doing and knowing how to solve this kind of problem can be useful)

Thanks again for your comprehensive answer :)
