I was given this game on Steam today and have spent the past 3 hours trying to launch it. My laptop does not have issues running games like Stellaris or Civ 6.

I restarted my computer, I uninstalled and reinstalled the game. I have put Steam offline, I'm switched between windowed and fullscreen, I've tried launching it from the .exe, I've added the program to my firewall and controlled folders exemptions.

How the hell can I get this game to get past initializing and the screen with the 3 character models? Please advise.

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox/CK3/logs/ folder, attach system.log , error.log

The error log may not provide a full picture since I did a clean reinstall shortly after writing the original post, but here are the files. Thanks @AndrewT !

Hello I'm having the same problem with CK3 on Steam. I have played over 30h before, with no problems or crashes at all but since yesterday I can't play the game.
At first it started by crashing on autosaves but now I can't even start a game. I have tried to disable autosave on cloud, I have tried to repair via steam and even did a full clean unninstall by deleting the folder ...Documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings III.

Also, I read in a thread somewhere that it might have to do with missing dll files from Visual C++ but I reinstalled all the files from the Microsoft website with no success.

I don't know if it helps but the laucher is not working at all, it simply shows a red triangle with the message "Launching the game failed". Through the executable, after some tries I finally got to the game main menu but it crashes after I try to start both a new game or a previous one that I had started before.

In attachment are the files from the /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings III/crashes/logs folder and also the Documents/Paradox/CK3/pdx_settings.txt file.

EDIT: after a couple more tries I was able to start a game but it crashed on the first autosave. After that I couldn't get to the menu again even after 3 tries. I can try to disable autosaves once I can actually get in. Any ideas to what might be the cause?

I'm afraid your AMD Radeon HD 8400 is WAY below the game's minimum requirement, the AMD Radeon HD 7870:

You're also a bit low on system memory. If you don't have a machine with supported hardware, please get a refund from where you bought it.

Sorry about that!

I'm not sure your problem is anything like the others in this thread.

What antivirus app do you use?

I only use Windows Defender with no other antivirus. The suggestion I saw on other threads about Ransomware protection does not work since I turned Controlled Folder Acess off and it still doesn't work.

Not really sure what is causing your problem. Try updating VC++:
Run both the x64 and x86 installers from there.

If that doesn't help can you disable the Intel video system you have, as a test? We've seen some weird issues on dual video systems like you have.

I disabled the Intel video card but the problem persists. I had already updated all the vc++ installers but I did it again with no success. The game still keeps crashing without showing any error to me

Here it goes
You don't have a proper driver installed for the Intel:
---------------
Display Devices
---------------
Card name: Microsoft Basic Display Driver
Manufacturer: Intel Corporation
Chip type: Intel(R) HD Graphics Family
Whether that's an expected consequence of disabling it I'm not sure, to be honest! How did you actually do that?

However we see no new crashes against ck3.exe in that dxdiag, and no game errors in that log either.
