Hi all first time posting. Noticed this problem with Victoria 3, Age of Wonders 4, and now CK3. Can’t open the multiplayer tabs in either. It just keeps giving me can’t connect to server or unknown errors. Older games that don’t require the log in to play multiplayer do not have this issue. This issue only started around the time of the 1.2 Vicky patch though I had issues with syncing multiplayer at the Vicky 3 launch. I’ve tried steam file repairs, uninstalling and reinstalling, port forwarding, turning off my firewall, and flushing my DNS and none of it has helped. Any advice or tech support would be welcome.

We have three possible workarounds that may solve it:

Disable IPv6
- Close CK3
- Go to Control Panel > View Network status and tasks > Change adapter settings (left side)
- Find your Hamachi Connection and Disable it
- Find your Internet connection adapter (for me, it was WiFi)
- Right click your internet adapter and select properties
- Scroll down to find "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and uncheck the box
- Select Ok
- Start up CK3 and should work.

Disable all other network adapters
Go to Windows Control panel.
Click on Network & Internet.
Click on View Network Status.
Quick Tip: You can also quickly access these settings by right-clicking the network icon in the taskbar and selecting the Network & Internet settings option.
Click on Change adapter options.
Right-click all network adapters that are not connected to the internet and select the Disable option.

Use a VPN
- Obtain a VPN
- Set the country to the US (why this works is also an enigma ><)
- Start the game
- Sign in and see if it "sticks"

Good luck!

That process does help in the overwhelming majority of such cases, with this and other affected games. But of course no one measure can always help every possible cause of a problem!

Firewalls are another possible cause.

Firewall was already on my suspicious list, but neither setting exceptions nor turning the whole firewall off did help.
The strange thing is, my wife in the same network had no problems.

But i just wanted to also ask here bcs maybe another solution was found and the support did not answer further (no surprise as it was in the middle of the night, no blame from my side!). ^^

If you use the Windows Defender firewall, victoria3.exe need to be in its Public and Private exceptions lists.

That said, using a VPN ought to work around any such firewall.

What if you make a new Windows user on your machine and log into it with that? Any better?

I tried a few things now.

sfc /scannow found a few broken files and repaired them, but to no further avail.
i created another user an while it helped temporarily with another error i had (i have a discord-update-loop-bug for a few months now), it did not help with the paradox-launcher not able to connect to the paradox-servers.
then i started windows in safe mode with networking...tadaaa, everything worked fine and the paradox-launcher could connect to the paradox-server. But ofc i cant play like that as there are only the rudimentary drivers are running.
Switching back to normal windows mode brought back the issue sadly (as i read in some forums about similar issues with other programs being non-temporary fixed by doing that).

Clearly there is some difference between Windows in your machine and your wife's , quite what I'm not sure if it is not the firewall.

Go into the startup options and disable everything you can there then reboot. Does that help?

Hey :)
I deactivated all autostart apps, to no avail.

So far i noticed that i can connect with older launcher versions but these automatically update.
For example: i deleted the paradox-launcher (also all folders in "Documents" and "Appdata" connected to the launcher), then i started Stellaris (as i knew its a Paradox-Launcher-Game that once could connect to the Paradox-Servers).
Without an installed launcher, on startup from Steam Stellaris installed a launcher itself.
That launcher was version V2023.2..and COULD connect!
But it automatically updated to 2023.7 (the latest version afaik) and then could NOT connect to the Paradox-Servers and told me about a failed update.
On the other hand AoW4 always starts with V2023.5-SE, no matter what paradox-launcher is installed or not. :D

EDIT: And i also tried to install the current paradox-launcher by hand, still the same (not connecting, telling me about a failed update) o_O

Yet your wife's machine uses launcher 2023.7 I assume, and it works fine for her. Again there must be something on this machine doing this to you.

Is it on wire or wireless? Whichever one, can you try the other?

It´s on wire but sadly there is no possibility to use it wireless (got not wlan stick or such).
i also switched the ethernet cables from my and my wifes pcs (to no avail) and tried VPN (to no avail either). o_O

In this folder are some .log files:
C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here.

To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

AND install and run the free utility Speccy. Send its output to a text file and attach that here please.
