When me and my friend uses mods in multiplayer it says in 2 error messages : '' Can't connect to game '' ''The host has another version of the game''

We're able to play without mods in multiplayer (without error messages), and we're able to play those mods in single player, but not together in multi..... Help ?

My Brother and I are having this issue as well.

We have attempted to subscribe to mods in a particular order, subscribe to only 1 mod, restart the game, steam, or pcs, etc. No luck thus far.

I did notice that if we both went in to Host a MP game and checked which mod files showed active, we had the same ones but the 1st in line for me was 2nd in line for him and vice versa. Not sure if that means anything or not but we tried many methods to get around this issue and nothing has been successful.

With no mods active do you have the same checksum?

Then with the mods active?

In my most recent session, I wanted to try out the NERO mods, which are Ironman compatible:
  • With no mods active, we had the same checksum (I know that from previous sessions)
  • Only I wanted to have three mods active for our latest session, whilst the other player went vanilla
  • I forgot to have a look at checksum, as I got annoyed, exited, deactivated mods, reloaded and rehosted
In EU4 this, players playing MP with different mods, never was an issue.

Different cosmetic mods that do not change the checksum will not prevent MP play, that is true. Different non-cosmetic mods will absolutely prevent MP play in EU4.

I also experienced this.
  • without mods we had the same checksum
  • we did both activate the same mods and again had the same checksum after that
  • despite having the same checksum the game refused to join the session with the reasoning the host had other mods activated, which is not true
Would be greatly appreciated if this was fixed, as it seems to be impossible to play multiplayer with mods right now.

^Precisely the same for my friend and me as well in our MP game. Tested this procedure twice: yesterday and today.

^Sorry, I should have made this clear: I was only referring to cosmetic mods as I, if any, only use such.

My Brother and I were both running the same 5 mods. We even tried a single one each (obviously the same one) to see if that would work. Both modded and vanilla we had the same checksums.

The only thing that changed was if we hit under host options to view mods in use, 1 of the mods we were using showed up as my first mod and his second, though I have no idea if that means anything.

No matter what we did, long as there were mods active, the game said the host has different mods. And it didn't matter which of us hosted the game.

This seems clearly like a bug from the above experiences. A weird one to be sure!

Please see if it's been posted already in Bug Reports; if not make a new thread there with the above details. Everyone who's posted here is welcome to add onto that thread.

We have been able to reproduce the issue on our end.
It has been added to the JIRA bug database with high priority.
