Well, I downloaded it from the stickied thread on the main discussions forum and when I unzipped it, it keeps giving me an error, about not finding the excel? Is there any other way to install this patch before I start playing?

This beta-patch is for Deus Vult, the expansion pack for CK.
It sounds like you don't have Deus Vult, since it can't find certain files.
nope, I just bought Deus Vult today and installed it. I downloaded the patch from the thread right after.
Did you install Deus Vult directly in your main Crusader Kings folder ?
Or in which directory did you install Deus Vult ? And in which directory did you install the patch ?
I believe I installed DV in the CK directory. I mean I played it some already. I downloaded the patch, open it, clicked on the crusaders.exe application and it pops up that it can't find the excel something.

And in which folder did you install the beta-patch ?
Can you also not start the game ?
To correctly install the beta-patch do the following
1. Download the beta-patch
2. Put the downloaded .rar file into your main Crusader Kings folder, C:\....\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings
3. Right+click on the .rar file and select the option 'extract here'. *
4. Answer yes to all questions
* This only works when you have WinRAR installed on your PC, if you haven't then download WinRAR it. (do a search with Google and you will find plenty of sites to download it from).

I have not installed the patch. I can play the game, I just can't start installing the patch into the game.
I'm assuming the way to check the directory is to see if DV files are in the Crusader Kings folder? Because there are DV stuff in the original folder, and when I open the Crusader Kings, it shows DV. So I'm assuming they are in the same directory.

Whoa, I just dumped the DV Patch.rar into the main folder. I clicked it to run and it immediately threw me into the game, and it showed 2.1 BETA on the top right corner of the main screen. So do I assume its been installed?
I didnt extract anything or had to click yes, should I be concerned?

There are several 2.1 BETA patches only the dates differ, you probably don't have the latest. But it's impossible to check for me.
Since the beta-patch needs to overwrite some original files, it should ask you if it is OK or not.
well its not quite the same error actually. I get the following error:

I have installed CK, then DV, then patched up to the latest beta and have renamed the AVI directory. :wacko:

I have followed the Step process for installing the Beta patch as listed here in this thread, but it wont extract in the folder. It says "Access denied" 20 times in the WinRAR Diagnostic window.
I have windows Vista x64.
To clarify, I install CK, then install DV in the CK folder, then put the DV patch.rar in the CK folder and right-click and say "extract here"? (<--That is what i did FYI)
I tried to get around this by manually moving each file in the extracted Beta into this respective folder in the CK directory; however, it says its version 2.0 not 2.1 on the menu screen so I'm wondering if it worked or not, or how I'll ever know.

You downloaded the latest version of the Beta and you did move the executable file into this directory to, yes? I'm unsure why it isn't extracting correctly for you. Do you have Vista? If so, is your installation in the Program Files folder? This *might* cause some trouble when trying to manually move anything.
