I have put the EU2 game (some 345 Mb of it) on my E: drive. That is physically the same drive as the C:.
When I put the CD in the computer it does not show that I can strt the game from the start-up screen, only install it again. I have to exit the screen and start the game from the start-menu.
Also, when I try to upgrade with a patch, it tells me that there is no EU2 on the computer.
Please tell me that it's possible to correct this, and tell me how.

you need to run it from the CD drive. The copy protection scheme will look for the CD in the drive, if it doesn't find it, you can't upgrade and you can't play.

That's not what I asked

Of course I have the CD in the drive when I play.
But I have also installed the game on my computer, as per the start-up screen. But inserting the CD only takes me to the start-up screen, without the option to press "play" only "install" again.
And as I said before, I can't upgrade. The upgrade never starts because I get the message "EU2 is not installed on this computer". It most certainly is installed!

sorry :(

check this thread to uninstall the game:
http://www.europa-universalis.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=20775

then install it again and try it on the C: drive if possible. I had EU2 installed on another drive than C and it worked fine, but for some people, installing it on C solved the problem. So, it's worth a try.

If it still doesn't work, post me your complete config.

I assume by upgrade you mean patch 1.04. You do get this message if you try to install a patch for a different version of Eu2, eg North American patch on a European edition of the game.
