How come Karl XII is more famous as Carolus Rex? Were did he get that name, by who, and why?

But that is not a name he got, he *was* Carolus Rex after the death of his father. Or am I missing something here?

Well, his name was Karl ('Carolus' in latin) and he was king ('rex' in latin) so when you referred to him in latin (like for instance 'Carolus Rex Vivat' 'long live King Charles' or whatever, I don't know latin) he was called Carolus Rex. Just like his father before him I guess. I'm happy to try to answer any other questions you may have about old Karl.
