Hello,
I will move the post for tech support since it seems this is driver issue.
There is no actionable item on game side unfortunately, so hold on. Tech support may require additional information about hardware and software.
/J

This is new with 1.5.7 , is that right?

Please do a full clean re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-Vic3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Victoria3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add Victoria3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test with a new campaign, NOT any existing one

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Victoria3 or Documents Victoria3 locations, before installing again.

If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/pdx_settings.json .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log

I did a full clean re-install and played for a while. All has been good. But after a couple of minutes the carriage sound loop has occurred again.

If this is a driver issue, let's try to deal with that.

Your audio driver is RTKVHD64.sys from 2021. Uninstall that driver in the Windows device manager, and reboot. Windows will detect the hardware with no driver, and install one. Hopefully a different version, but even if not the process of doing the uninstall/install often clears up sound driver issues.

Good luck!

Thanks a lot for your feedback and support. I have de-installed the old one and got new drivers. First of all, I have a lot more options and utility available overall in Windows. Thanks for that!

Unfortunately, the issue is still there. I am starting the game - all good. Loading a save or starting a new campaign - all good. But switching to a specific zoom level triggers the carriage sound loop.

@laywoman this is now not looking like a driver issue! Have we tried duplicating it inhouse?

Note: I think it only happens (or at least *starts* happening) when you're country at war. Therefore, to duplicate:

1. Play as Brazil in 1836.
2. Zoom in 2-3 levels past map view. That is, starting from paper map, zoom in 2-3 more times.
3. Unpause the game at speed 3 and wait a few in game weeks. Move your camera around Brazil, admiring the dozen or so carriages carrying supplies to both of Brazil's front lines.
4. At some point the carriage sound will continuously loop and become thunderously loud. Multiple sources will play the sound at the same time, causing a massive increase in volume.

The channel responsible for this audio is 'SFX'.

I have tried several campaigns and different nations so far. I wasn't at war with any of them. But there were carriages moving around my country with supplies from another country. That country was at war and sending supplies to the front. By that time, I got the sound loop from a distinct zoom level.

Also worth mentioning, there seem to be two different clopping sound effects that can give this looping bug. Last night I got a slightly different sound that wasn't muted by the SFX channel (unmutable entirely, had to reboot the game to get it to cease). This other effect doesn't seem to have anything to do with war but occurs at the same zoom level and has similar behavior despite being unmutable.

Same experience here. I have tried to mute it but I couldn't stop it that way. Had to restart the game too.
