Catastrophic Failure Uninstall Error

Gee, I don't like the sound of that... it sounds so... majorish.

When trying to uninstall and reinstall from the disk (there is no prompt in my program file), I get this error, but I don't know why. I haven't modified the program except with patches and GIP graphics. The last patch I installed was 1.3a, and otherwise the game seems to be performing fine.

Do I have to manually delete all files? (I tried that. I did a search for all HoI fles and dumped them, but only to discover that the Install button remained grayed-out when I re-ran the disk, such that I had to go to Uninstall again, and instead of using the Remove switch, use the Repair Switch, and now the game is back on track... I guess). The game seems to be working fine, anyway. However, I still have a grayed out Install prompt and the Uninstall still gives me the Catastrophic Failure in moving Core Components error. If I have to manually remove all files, what files did I fail to remove such that the Install button remained grayed-out? Some keys perhaps?

In either approach to Uninstall, what is the solution, please? (other than erasing my hard-drive and maybe repurchasing HoI?)

Thanks very much, and it worked! But, it wasn't quite as simple as the instructions (sorry I didn't see them earlier). The instruction tells you to do a search in the Installation files for 'hearts', and that search didn't result in any record location. I had to use properties to find the dates of my installation history to narrow down which records belonged to HoI. Also, there are, as you say, a lot of bits and pieces in the registry. In addition to Paradox Interactive, I did a search on HoI2 and more on Paradox (do not confuse with the drivers, etc. named Paradox) and found various keys and some related to installation, and although perhaps inconsequential, I never the less deleted those misc. keys as well. The result was a fresh installation of HoI. Thanks again.
 
What was it under if not Hearts of Iron? was it listed as HOI2?
