Hello,

I get a CTD when I click on the diplomacy button. I play Germany and its June 2nd 1936 and I have much other nations in the Axis (Haiti, Guatemala, Ecuador, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Hungary, Persia, ...). It mostly happens when I got a new ally for my Axis.

Im running HoI v1.05 on a

Athlon XP 2200+
GF 4 Ti4200
SB Live! Value
Windows XP Prof SP 1
DirectX 9.0 (Build 4.09.00.0902)
NVIDIA Detonator 41.09

I tried to wait till its another date (f.e. June 5th 1936) but every time I try to go to the diplomacy menu I get the CTD :(

Can you help me?

Please, please - with sugar on it - :D

EDIT:

Sometimes this CTD doesnt happen. If I click on Denmark, then increase my science capacity from 0.00 to whatever and then click on the diplomacy button it doesnt happen. BUT if i try to click on Germany after that (no matter what nation I play - I tried with the Netherlands) I got my CTD...

In both CTD's my sound makes strange noises like: "crrrrrrr" -> CTD

Let's see if the bug mods know anything about this one first.

Hello again,

I edited my savegame with the HoI Editor (some values on my country) and now it doesnt happen anymore. After a few tests it CTD'ed me again after a click on germany. Now its not the diplomacy button but my country. I dont get it

Would it help if I would send one of you my savegame (from June 2nd --> diplomacy CTD) so you may can reproduce it? Maybe its a common program error or just one from my system. But I dont know what to do esle, its not much fun to play the game with a CTD every 2 minutes, and I need the dipl. menu and the clicks on my country to play efficiently :D

Thanks again for the help!

So apparently they do not, I guess that puts the ball back in my court.

Okay, Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back, update your videocard driver.

I had this happen once, when I was new to the game. I was playing USSR and cheated myself 500 DI to see what could be done with the diplomacy rules. I then went on a spree of bringing nations to my alliance and getting military access. I eventually hit a point where this CTD started occurring. I went back to a previous save game...no problem. I started requesting military access again...CTD. I eventually concluded that there is some limit to the number of nations that can allow you military access before this bug occurs. I didn't do an exact count of the number of nations it took. I finally went back to the pre-CTD save and didn't ask for any more military access and was able to continue the game.

Hope this helps!

Hmm yeah this could be possible Thx :). I have MA in most of my Axis countrys...

If I hit (click) a special combination i dont get a CTD when clicking on the button. But after I try to annex a country I got one, f.e. when I go to the dipl. menu and hit "Annex Nation" I got my CTD. I cant annex any country :(

Hello

I am running HoI v1.05c on a

Athlon XP 2000+
GF 4
SB Live! Value ************ - not any more
Windows XP Home SP 1
DirectX 9.0 (Build 4.09.00.0902)
NVIDIA Detonator 41.09

so you can see I have a very system which is close to Jedi_Jones and I had the same problem especially

" my sound makes strange noises like: "crrrrrrr" -> CTD"

I have a sound chip on the M/board and on the cmos settings it was set to AUTO, thus supposedly the SB live board would take preference. (also no drivers were installed for the sound chip). In desperation I took out the SB board installed the soundchip drivers plugged in the speakers to the M/B output and I have not had the fault repeat. The game still crashes on occasions but this appears to be something to do with the volume of instructions I give it when either paused or on a the very slow time setting. Is it possible I am overflowing some setting?

Sounds more like you guys are using the VIA drivers, which are known to be buggy!

I have a Via KT333 chipset - what drivers am I supposed to use? :D

Do we need a Pentium with full Intel chipset to play the game?

Europa Universalis II works OK, Gatesoft Rise of Nations works OK, Flight Simulator 2004 works OK so what is so special about HOI?

Your answer kind of closes the discussion :)

The bugs are in the VIA drivers, not HOI.
If you had 98/ME then you could switch to the windows drivers, but XP does not allow this.
