Could everyone check to make sure that the "Serbia denies without Russian support" event works when not playing as Austria-Hungary? While playing as Russia, I'd purposely not give my support to Serbia and then watch as no event occurs afterwards and the Austro-Hungarian AI sits idly forever, when it ought to either take back its demands or go to war with Serbia.

Events are updated in my old post . Please look it them and say something

I've taken to writing descriptions for some of the already scripted events, which for quick simplicity had temporary prompts like 'what shall we do?'. Anyone care to have a quick read and post any thoughts?

Franz Ferdinand is shot (Austria-Hungary)
28th June 1914: The heir to the throne of the Empire of Austria-Hungary, Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sophie have been assassinated by Serb nationalists in Sarajevo. As Inspector-General of the armed forces, Franz Ferdinand was visiting Bosnia to witness army manoeuvres and agreed to visit the capital, Sarajevo. When he arrived, Franz Ferdinand and his wife set off for the town hall along the Appel Quay, a road running adjacent to the Miljacka River at 10:10am. When the entourage neared the Èumurja Bridge, Nedeljko Èabrinoviæ, from the Serbian nationalist ‘Black Hand’ movement threw a bomb at Franz Ferdinand’s car, which bounced off the folded down roof and exploded by the rear wheel of the fourth car. Franz Ferdinand’s car, only slightly damaged continued down the Appel Quay to the town hall, where he was received by the mayor, who began his formal speech of welcome. After some awkward moments, the party moved inside where Franz Ferdinand considered his next move. General Potiorek, in charge of the Archduke’s safety, suggested that the entourage travel down the deserted Appel Quay towards the museum. At 10:45am, the convoy of cars left the town hall and drove at speed down the Appel Quay. At the junction with Franz Josef Street, the first two cars turned right in accordance to the original plan while Potiorek ordered the driver of Franz Ferdinand’s car to proceed down the Appel Quay. As the car was being reversed, Gavrilo Princip, also of the ‘Black Hand’ stepped forward and shot Franz Ferdinand and Sophie at close range.

There was widespread consternation across Europe at the assassination, and after much deliberation the Austro-Hungarian government must now choose between taking no action against Serbia at all or to despatch Count Hoyos to Berlin to ask the German government to provide support.

Austria-Hungary wants our support (Germany)
Count Hoyos, from the Austro-Hungarian foreign ministry has arrived in Berlin to seek German support in the aftermath of the assassination of the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, Franz Ferdinand.

The assassination has caused fury across Europe, with a wide spread belief that Serbia has to be punished for its implicated involvement in Franz Ferdinand’s murder. Hoyos has told the German government that war is Vienna’s favoured option, as it will provide a definite answer to the Serbian question that has threatened the stability of the Empire for decades. Serbia, Hoyos said, might be allowed to survive, but shall be dismembered so as to neutralise its ability to cause unrest within the Empire. The Kaiser is of the opinion that Russia shall not intervene in an Austro-Hungarian-Serbian war because the Tsar would not have the temerity to show support for regicides.

If the German government does not support Austria-Hungary, then it may cause a rift in the Central Alliance and eventually leave Germany without any effective allies in Europe. Supporting Austria-Hungary will strengthen their position in the Balkans, and strengthen the Central Alliance as a whole. Russia’s response will now determine how events unfold. What shall the German government do?

Germany supports us (Austria-Hungary)
Count Hoyos has returned from Berlin with news that Germany shall give Austria-Hungary its ‘unconditional support’. Discussion has proceeded concerning what action Austria-Hungary should take against the malevolent Serbs. Whilst some have argued in favour of inflicting a ‘major diplomatic defeat’ upon the Serbs, hardliners are suggesting that an ultimatum should be sent to Belgrade that the Serbian government could not possibly accept, whilst some simply want war as soon as possible. Russia’s reaction concerning what we do must be considered - it is strongly suspected that they shan’t let Serbia be humiliated without protest, or maybe, war.

The German government are urging that Austria-Hungary takes action as soon as possible. By declaring war, Austria-Hungary shall begin a potentially catastrophic European-wide conflict, but by sending the ultimatum, there is still the possibility that the Serbian government may accept, and war can be avoided.

Germany does not support us (Austria-Hungary)
Count Hoyos has returned from Berlin with news that Germany shall not give Austria-Hungary its support in dealing with Serbia. Austria-Hungary now finds itself alone concerning what approach it should take with respect to Serbia. Austria-Hungary's international standing shall be greatly diminished by doing nothing, yet the Serbian threat can still be dealt with later, most probably with an alliance with Bulgaria, and the Russia threat countered by making friendly overtures to Great Britain. Sending a tough ultimatum to Belgrade will keep alive the possibility of achieving a diplomatic victory, or a swift military victory if it is refused. Declaring war on Serbia will almost certainly isolate Austria-Hungary from every other European power, including her best ally, Germany. Additionally, Russia would be free to make policy concerning Austria-Hungary without having to concern itself with Germany's reaction.

Germany appears to have become something of an unreliable ally, and the Serbian threat is still very real. Lack of activity can only strengthen Austria-Hungary's enemies, Serbia and Russia, yet by backing down, Austria-Hungary will have the time to find a counterbalance to Serbia and Russia in the Balkans. Sending a tough ultimatum or hastily declaring war will leave Austria-Hungary alone in fighting Serbia, and then most probably, Russia too.

Sounds good Allenby, I particurlarly like the Germany does not support us.

I havent read this thred so close but if I'm not mistaken the spanish diseased broked out in may 1918 and lotts of the german solider did becuse of the disesed.
I think it would be a god event but I dont now what will hapend may be 25% of the manpower pol died ore some divison get 90% in loses.

I'm sure it would be realistic to have an influenza event, but it would probably be wise to put limits on its effects on combat units, so that countries' orders of battles aren't completely depleted.

Other than that, I'm sure something can be done. :)

The obvious way to do the Spanish 'Flu would be to have an event reducing your manpower pool, perhaps also increasing dissent. I don't think that the epidemic affected combat operations significantly since the front-line troops got first priority for food and medicine - rather it hit the civilian populations and disrupted the flow of replacements.

BTW, I thought the influenza hit later, in August-September 1918.

Problems: 1) We will need a separate event for every country affected by the 'flu. (This will be a nightmare for those who like to have pop-up messages telling them when events hit other countries!) I don't know much about which countries were worst hit by the disease: could we narrow down a shortlist of countries to write events for?
2) You can't reduce manpower by a percentage, so somebody will have to work out an actual number to reduce the manpower poool by - presumably dependent on each country's population.

I'd suggest that the countries that should be effected by the influenza event be the big ones: British Empire, France, Germany, United States, Russia, Ottoman Empire, Russia, Austria-Hungary and Japan.

I'll put research into which countries suffered the most from the epidemic, and if I can't find anything, then we'll reduce manpower in the across by a broad figure or indulge in some medically-based educated guesswork. :)

I have surfing aruond yhe internet and found out somthing about the flu.
according a page the flu hitt the german frontline soliders wery hard, I will do some more resuge.
in sweden the flu started in july.
I will try to find some numbers.

here you have som numbers:

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,civilian,,,,,,,,,,,Military
USA................600 000 (1918-19)..43 000
200 000 durin the fall

England,,,,,,,,,200 000,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,??????

France,,,,,,,,,,,200 000,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,10 000

German,,,,,,,,,,400 000,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,186 000

India,,,,,,,,,,,,,,17 milion,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,..?????

Sweden,,,,,,,,,,27 000,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,..?????

I didn't find a single syllable about Austria-Hungary, Russia ore Turkey.

The military casualties is the soiliders that died in the front.
I think that the dissent will rise more fore countrise that have more civilian casualties.

The effects on India shall obviously have to take into consideration that it isn't fully represented on the British Empire's manpower pool. If it were the case that all population figures were translated proportionately, Britain would easily be able to raise the largest army on the basis that the Empire accounted for a quarter of the planet's people. India's vast population is not going to come across on the manpower pool, consequently, the effect on the British Empire from this event will have to be taken into consideration.

Congratulations upon your rigorous research! :)

I give up.
I havent got any e-mail this weak so i do some medically-based educated guesswork.
I have calculated how mutch evry country will lose in man power.

England 90 9 dissent

France 72 7disent

USA 270 27disent

Germany 180 18 disent

Russia 225 22dissent

Austria-Hungary 90 9 dissent

Turkey 90 9dissent

Italy 90 9 dissent

some one else must code this becuse i can´t.

The numbers look okay, but was their any historical basis for such high levels of dissent towards the government because of the influenza epidemic. Especially the 27 dissent in the US? This doesn't seem right.

Also might the US's numbers be lower if they are not involved in the war? If I recall, the epidemic began with wounded soldiers returning from Europe, but I could be wrong.

I think u have right about the hige level on the dissent.
Yes the epidemick come to USA when a bout whit wounded soliders returned to the states.

Do you think the Italian,Austria-Hungary and Turkey have trustworthiness numbers, becuse I only toke the same numbers as England.

Maybe we shoud splitt the event in two ore in threeand they pop upp randomly betwen the sommer 18 and...O shit wen did the spanish flu ended  .
I´ll be back.
