My first attempt was an overwhelming success. I went with Church, Ecologist, Marsgate, Adam & Eve were both unspecialised and Eve was a celebrity. Colony location is 4 South 9 West. I got lucky with the forever young breakthrough fairly early. I was up to 3 domes and 168 colonist at the 100 sol evaluation.

Finished my game. No so lucky as i wanted, it was 40 boys 20 girls ratio in middle, but still pretty ok at end. No any breakthroughs reseached (this map is very unfriendly for breakthroughs, 1st appears only after tunnel built).

Well done
MontharKragan & ainyru

I will give this a go again too when im better, abit sick atm, i cannot believe that 249 martian borns, dude, that is really awesome. How did you get so many born, any secrets?

Secret is only one - max comfort all the time. Tricky part is just how to start quickly, how much resources to reserve and how much money spend on tech. I played this map many times already, so its not hard for me.

Here my Sol 7 founders appears on Mars with 100 comfort dome already built:

Then its just general strategy, produce enough resources to build everything needed.

So, did you force couples in your save? So that you got an even ratio of male/female children? Did you rush out a specific tech? i am actually very impressed with your result here, learning what you did here, would go a long way to understand just how the birth rate function really is, and would go to help me in all future saves. All relevant information you can give, i would greatly appreciate. I have so far in the game, not talking about this specific challenge, had alot of varied results. I still have alot to learn, do you frequently save and load up again to min/max the decisions you do?

What was your loadout btw? I have tried multiple times to get colonist to mars on your coordinates, but i cannot manage 7 sol, that is just wow :D How many times have you restarted to get perfect start? do i need the fuel tech immediatly as my very first tech to pull it off? I also noticed the polymer on the bottom of the map, i assume u collected them early and used an orbital scan? 5 food i guess, not sure how many machine parts, polymers etc u started with, also, did you grab the concrete to your left in the start? did you use battery + solar?

I dont think its even possible to force even ratio by some way. After i got 3 first children as females i tryed to save/load some and discovred, it dosnt help. They probably save random numbers seed in file. So i played it as is. Here my colony at Sol 31, pinned colonists are all i have by birth order.

Important techs to rush in order which i go:
1. Mars Crowdfunding (+1k money), Drone Swarm (+2 drones from 1st hub)
2. Earth-Mars Initiative, Explorer AI (+100 reseach each)
3. Advanced Martian Engines (40 fuel rocket)
4. Soil Adaptation (Farm construction)
5. Martian Education (education is key good working economy)

First Rocket:
Fuel Refinery: 2
Drone Hub: 1
Transport
Drone: 4
Concrete: 5 (for 1st Wind Generator)
Food 5
Polymers: 10
Machine Parts: 20
Electronics: 5
Total: 1520$

Second Rocket:
Explorer
Food: 25
Machine Parts: 60
Electronics: 5
Total: 1680$

4000$-1540$-1660$ = 800$
800$+1000$(from tech) = 1800$ spend on research = 9k research

I restarded game by 2 steps, 1st, im restarting until i have Drone Swarm and Advanced Martian Engines available to reseach from start, plus Mars Crowdfunding must be reachable shortly, then im making save and restarting until i get double sexy officers. Both steps takes something like 20-30 mins to complete. And then i start to play.

I will attach save files from each of first 7 sols. You can see all i do by steps.

What i do after rocket landed:
1st aim: Wind generator+Concrete Extractor, Transport helping to gather 7 metals and deliver it quickly
2nd aim: Sensor Tower. We have to scan sector with water as fast as possible.
3nd aim: Fuel production. Wind generators, Water Extractor, cables, pipes. Transport helps with metal.
4th aim: 2 more concrete extractors, we need alot of concrete for dome and buildings. Have to scan these sectors before we can build extractors. We have Sensor Tower already, so its quick
5th aim: Scaning sector with polymers on land, then gathering it. Need for gardens (we have 10 for dome already)

Drone Hub is placing instantly after Drone Swarm researched, its my 1st tech

No, it's only predetermined few minutes in advance (two minutes maybe?), not just for births but for everything in the game.
If you load like 5 minutes back, different stuff will happen.

I can confirm that in my game, i first born a boy, then i had to restart for another reason entirely, but got female child. So, there is a way to force it, maybe 2 sol is not enough to force it, but i did also see this happen for sure.

Thank you so much, i will try and replicate your success as soon as i have more time, but before patch on Wednesday. You Sir have surprised me, i took notice of you in another thread over the best colony's at sol100. You know your stuff. I really wish to improve my play, because thus far, the challenge of this game, is whatever you do in the first 100 sols, so until devs come up with more for us to do after the wonders are build, my focus will be to understand how the works in the first 100 sols. You caught my eye and i hope to learn more from you if you choose to share more of your thoughts and gameplay in the future. Thanks for sharing and helping this challenge to grow, maybe we get more participants doing this quest with adam &eve. The map you chose, is very interesting, lot of challenge to me. :D

You can find many hints in my playthrough in best colony thread. Like manualy controling drones at begin, changing buildings priorities to focus drones on one, transport helping everythere etc. Its important if you want to reproduce my start.

@ainyru

I got the stellaris dome dlc, could not open your save without that and the mods. Gonna check it out shortly :)

Edit:
So, i went trough those save files, very good progression but i got a few questions, why place extractors close to windturbines and water extractors next to eachother etc when maintenance cost goes up? You dont seem to care about that at all :) why going so compact? Are you playing on slow speed? You mention that you micro drones, so i would assume you go slow sol for sol?

My mods dosnt affect anything in economy, it just automate some simple things, like exporing, gathering mats and moving drones between hubs. You can disable all mods and open save without any issue.

@ainyru
I cant replicate your start yet, you have done very well, i keep restarting to nail your buildorder more perfectly. I learn alot now, the microing of drones i never did before, now i do it too much i guess :D Thank you for sharing and giving helpful advice. I will stay on this for a while longer, i know i probably cannot beat your score, but i can improve my own for sure. Ill post back when im happy with my result :) Enjoy the new patch that is incoming, now sure if the patch would have an impact on the score, but we will see.

Hey all :)

Started today with one "simple" goal. Only bring 2 colonists to mars and no further passengers than that. After getting to Sol 100, i only managed to get 13 martian born colonists. I played as Church with Doctor commander. Can anybody else beat my score? If so, teach me master! :)

Map: 18s 180e

I'm gonna build 1 wonder or die trying :D

I just watched a replay of a Paradox stream on Youtube. Nikki and Susie are using your idea to do a play through. They are wanting to show off Opportunities new features.
I tried myself once. I failed because I could never get my colonists happy enough to make babies. I have some new ideas so I'm probably going to try again. I had already been looking at going as much Martian Born as I could.

Thank you for letting me know about that, i just enjoyed watching their attempt to do this challenge. Really cool that they wanna give it a go :) I actually hope that the idea of Adam & Eve makes it into the game rule section :) Good luck to you aswell if you attempt to make your own awesome colony based on this challenge, i really enjoy playing it, all-though i am amazed by ainyru's results. 249 martian born at sol 100. My goal is to finish the wonders, but i made it difficult for my self when selecting sponsor and commander. I will make a new attempt tho later.

I tried something different (still similar), but I don't know if it is easier or not (probably yes, but still).

Paradox Sponsor (so only one rocket, 4000M funds, and the rocket needs 100 fuel for round-trip)
Doctor
"The last Ark" and "Hunger" Game rules (only one passenger rocket can be called - ever and no food imports from earth)

It took me a while to set up - especially because I did not find ANY rare metals deposit in the vicinity. I almost ran out of advanced materials before I got an anomaly that turned itself into a 1.000 units very high grade rare metals deposit (PHEW!). First (and the only 12) colonists landed on Sol 28, first maritanborn at Sol 29. Currently Sol 60 with population reaching 20, but research was painfully slow. But I got the breakthrough tech, that converts excess power into research points.

To the left is the initial landing zone, which is now my fuel production center and one water extractor (all deposits in the area are very low or low grade, which sucks a bit).
In front of the closer (primary) dome is the discovered deposit of rare metals. to the left, are waste rock disposal zones, landing pad (with storage area) and primary energy production.
All lifelines and power cables are built for double-redundancy, with valves and switches capable of sealing off broken passages without causing any power outages in buildings (was hoping for brakethrough tech, that makes them unbreakable, but no luck so far).

Sol 60.jpg

You are gonna need more waste disposal area.

I hope they eventually give us the ability to build crater/crevasse "piers", from which the waste rock can be dumped as "landfill". It would be perfect for your current colony.
