Changing country tag in save game

I am playing as Naples right now, but have taken so much land around Byzantium(included them), that I want to become Byzantium myself. I tried to change it in the save file, but I obviously did something wrong, as the game crashed... So my question is, how do I do this right? o

So you are Naples, have taken lots of land from Byzantium and Byzantium no longer exists? As long as Byzantium no longer exists, you should be able to do a replace of APUL with BYZA, making sure to have it case sensitive and whole word only.

I found my country being mentioned three places. First I changed one of them, the one with the list of titles held by me.
That made me see Naples on the list but byz as first title. I did not load that one though, thought it wasn't right. So I changed the other two, which was the main tag, one listed right before the list of titles, and one long down in the file.

Exactly when does the game crash?

You'll need to change tags:

1) In the listing in the top of the file

2) The country entry

3) Characters residing in NAPL must have their country changed to BYZA

4) You probably don't need to do anything in the title section, the game engine is robust enough to sort these things out, ff you already hold the BYZA title.
