Sometimes my chaplain gets a bit confused want to play chancellor, attempting to improve relations with secular vassals and always failing. I don't really know what particular circumstances lead to this; sometimes it just happens. And it seems to keep happening until I reassign him.
In this particular instance I was trying to improve relations with the pope and it decreased my standing with one of the pope's mayor vassals, which isn't a big deal, but it's happened with my own mayor vassals as well. Since the only stated outcomes of the mission are "improved relations with bishop" and "decreased relations between bishop and spiritual leader" (and in this particular case -- trying to butter the pope -- only the former) I assume this is not supposed to happen. There's also the part where he refers to himself as chancellor, which is also suspiciously wrong.
