I was watching the succession line of england. And william's first son Robert had a boy, with a Norman wife. He being Norman as well, the son was French!
What is going on!!!
I have the Dues Vault Improvement pack installed as well.

Where was Robert located at the time of his son's birth? The split is something like 70%/20%/10% Father's/Mother's/Demesne's culture to determine culture of the infant.

I believe that a child has a chance of being of the father's culture, the mother's culture, or the culture of the province where the child is located upon birth, though I don't know the actual percentages.

EDIT: It's really amusing when you get crusaders from Europe having children in provinces with Arabian cultures, because culture determines what portraits a character can receive, so it can lead to white European Christians giving birth to Arab-looking children.
Also, I was rather wondering, does anyone know if religion is determined in a similar way or is religion always the parent's religion? What if the parents are of different religions?

I thought that was changed in Deus Vult.
I know that in Original CK that did happen, to me when my Kingdom got relocated from Europe to Bagdad.
But maybe its just changed for europeans cultures not becoming arab and vice versa...dont really know.

I'm pretty sure the split is 70% father / 15% mother / 15% capital, but I believe that in DV it was made so that "light" parents (most european) can't have "dark" children (arab, alan, cuman, etc.) unless one of the parents is themselves dark (the reverse is also true). In other words, if your French family moves to Jerusalem you won't end up with Arab kids, but if your French ruler marries an Arab woman you might.

It doesn't have much in-game effect, though in DVIP having the wrong culture is one of several flags that can lead to vassals breaking away (the others are wrong region, wrong religion, and wrong government type).

Not entirely the same but I had a similar problem with religion. Somehow a muslim family was among my courtiers. The father turned catholic by event. His child though became a muslim as I picked court education. Next child I chose Ecclesiastical education and voila he became a catholic. Later I formed a bishopric with this guy only to discover that his successor was a muslim - thereby making my catholic bishopric muslim? The county was catholic so I don't understand it.
