why does paradox not make a game that revolves around China. China has a rich history and some periods like spring and autumn period or the following warring states period would be very fun. Or even the fall of the Han and show the romance of three kingdoms how paradox makes everything better. Like they did with skylines compared to sim city

I guess one reason is that there is not much recorded history of that period in a western language which the people at PDX could understand. And afaik translations from original Chinese sources are very rare, either.

I'm not sure how much historical material is available in a Western language - I'm a historian but that's far from my field. It would, indeed, be a great area for a game, though.

There's tons of academic literature on the period and other aspects of Chinese history in English, French and German. The only problem is that accessible popular histories in Western languages are usually general histories that don't treat any particular era in detail- still, I've been able to buy good English-language materials on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. They're really not that rare.

I think the biggest challenge in making a China-focused game is the belief that any given time period in China is just about like any other (special thanks to "oriental despotism" and "the asiatic mode of production" for giving them that preconception)- the average westerner at least has a vague idea of the trajectory of Western history but has absolutely no comparable sense for China.

They said they are not going to make small games after Sengoku. So either it need to be a major game like EUIV or it wont happen in the resonable future.

I think our best bet is to get the Warring States as a DLC for Imperator. The start date they've already got is pretty ideal (just after the First Anti-Qin Alliance breaks down) and the mechanics are a pretty good fit.

It would be a fantastic seeting for a Paradox game, though a little difficult in deciding on which time-period. I would love to see a Paradox game though, that is deeply researched, and brings out all the peculiarities of Chinese government, internal and foreing politics to us regular people.

There was actually a very good Spring and Autumn mod for CK2, but I don't think it's been updated in many patches. The Three Kingdoms mod is still up and running though, and Tianxia incorporates east Asia into the existing world map. So while I would like to see a China-oriented game I'm also happy with having the modding potential to include China.

I've been kicking around ideas for a mod myself, possibly focused on the Northern and Southern Dynasties or on a post-Tang alt history. Some of the changes coming with HF have really interesting applications to Chinese politics.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms games are still going. I haven't played any, though, but from what I understand it helped develop the grand strategy wargame genre.
