Very good couple of battles, exactly the results required

Chapter VII

After disbanding the army of Cakravar, Teyare encamped his army near Mingoi, there he met with his commanders.

Yuanying: "In case of attacking we must be fast and forceful, we can not let the enemy form a new army."
Teyare: "If we are fast enough we can reach the enemy capital in two days, there we will capture Cakravar."
Durmukhe: "I do not think it's a good idea to get into enemy territory so much, we could be ambushed..."
Teyare: "I do not believe it, the enemy warriors are scattered, we have the road free."
Durmukhe: "My warriors and I have already defended our kingdom, but we will not venture into a risky campaign. My warriors and I will return to Kucha."

It is possible that Durmukhe did not want to support his brother with the hope that Teyare would be defeated and thus, with a great loss of prestige, Durmukhe could snatch the kingdom from him. That's what Teyare thought.
Undaunted, Teyare let his brother leave, Durmukhe's place was occupied by Rudrasarme, the son of Vaitike, the marshal of Hatgara and Kumaraya the old.

Imagen 83.jpg

After two days of march the army of Cakravar surprised Teyare in the arid lands of Loulan. This battle was much bloodier than the previous one, despite being less numerically the army of Cakravar fought fiercely. The life of Teyare was in danger several times, his personal guard, conformed by the best warriors of Arsi, was severely decimated.

Imagen 84.jpg

Suddenly, while Teyare fought on foot with his guard, Cakravar appeared riding on horseback with a group of his best warriors. The attack almost broke Teyare's lines, both generals met for a duel in the middle of the tumult. Cakravar charged against Teyare and he dodged with difficulty, when Cakravar was preparing for a second charge Rudrasarme appeared with his spear and knocked him off. Both men were engaged in a fierce battle, Rudrasarme start with advantage as he was younger and more agile, he wounded Cakravar in the arm causing him to drop his sword, with a second movement he knocked down his opponent on the floor. When Rudrasarme approached to finish off his victim, Cakravar quickly skewered him with a spear he took from the floor. Cakravar left the boy dead and, when he turned to take his sword, was skewered for a spear, the young Rudrasarme killed him with his last strength and then fell dead, both killed each other. All were astonished, the battle did not last much longer, the war either.

Imagen 85.jpg

The peace was agreed after Alsamgya, the widow of Cakravar and now regent of her son Sanwatse, paid compensation for the war caused by her late husband. A new victory of the Kusara over the Krorän.

Imagen 86.jpg

In Arsi the sons of Teyare received their father, there was also his wife, she only appeared in a formality for the people of Arsi not because she rejoiced with the victory of her husband. The funeral of Rudrasarme lasted several days, he was veiled with all the honors corresponding to an authentic hero.

The following months passed normally, Teyare interposed the tasks of government with the education of his sons, Kumaraya and Sati, in both, especially in his firstborn, sees the future glory of the Kusara family. The great amount of hours dedicated to Kumaraya initiated an authentic friendship of father and son.

Imagen 87.jpg

The relationship between Teyare and Praniyate did not improve, the marriage was disunited. On one occasion, while Wästarye was on a diplomatic mission in Samarkand, Teyare sent his wife in a procession to Kashgar, the westernmost city in the Tarim basin. Praniyati accepted the mission since she was interested in knowing the variety of flowers and fruits that grow in the gardens and plantations of Kashgar.
A few weeks later Praniyati returned with the response of Qishiq, the king of Kashgar.

Imagen 88.jpg

The relationship did not improve, but at least Praniyati did something for the kingdom. During the years of peace that followed Teyare was dedicated to making his kingdom prosper.

Imagen 89.jpg

In order to contribute to the prosperity of the kingdom Teyare decided to perform certain works of remodeling the roads in Kucha and Kubera, cities under the authority of his brother. When Teyare arrived in Kucha, he learned that Durmukhe married with Shri Sarikol a young saka woman from an old vassal family of the Vijaya of Hvamna, her family had been dispossessed of their lands and she had found refuge in the court of Durmukhe.
Durmukhe now thought of an heir to his lands, he intends to start a new lineage within the Kusara family.

Imagen 90.jpg

The prosperity of Arsi was not matched for any other nearby kingdom, with Krorän being the only two independent tocharian kingdoms. The governor of Turfan, called Kara Khoja by the jurchen, tried to obtain the independence, the rebellion was a complete failure. Teyare thought of his sister Trasisi, who had married with the governor's heir. The messengers reported that she and her husband were not affected. The failed rebellion in Turfan is an example of the fact that the jurchen are not weak, as some people think in Arsi.

Imagen 91.jpg

When it seemed that the relationship with Praniyati was going to improve soon new problems arose...

Praniyati: "How about sending our children to my hometown? There they would be educated with the best buddhist teachers of the region."
Teyare: "They are fine with me, I am teaching them everything related to the history of my family, my people and this region."

Praniyati became angry with Teyare and they both distanced themselves like never before. Teyare did not want his children to be educated in a saka culture, he tries to turn them into authentic tocharians, even if it means not being able to receive the education of the best buddhist teachers.

A tense battle

So a little marital discord?

Chapter VIII

Huaishen had worked as a steward since he reached adulthood when Hatgara recognized his managerial skills. He has done a great job in the construction of roads and the development of trade. When Hatgara began his government he found a kingdom decimated for the wars, but that was now part of the past. These skills has also contributed to peace in the kingdom, now fewer crimes are committed and fewer complaints are heard from the subjects.

Imagen 93.jpg

One hot morning Huaishen approached Teyare to speak:

Huaishen: "We have news from China"
Teyare: "What has happened cousin?"
Huaishen: "After years of confused clashes and changing alliances, the civil war in China has finally ended. The old regime has fallen, the son of the former emperor now sits on the celestial throne, he is Tudu Xianzu. "
Teyare: "The yurchen have been victorious..."

Huaishen: "That's right, hundreds of chinese refugees continue to arrive in these lands fleeing the massacres"
Teyare: How does this affect us?"

Huaishen: "It seems that things are slowly returning to normal, surely the yurchen resume commercial activities. The roads that connect our cities are in good condition and free of robbers, the caravans can transit them without problems."

Imagen 94.jpg

After informing about the situation Huaishen retired to rest. Teyare thought about sending a delegation to Dunhuang to strengthen ties with Jabingia, the yurchen general.
When he awoke the next morning, Wästarye informed Teyare of the Huaishen's death:

Wästarye: "Your cousin has died in a suspicious accident..."
Teyare: "I can not believe it..."
Wästarye: "A servant found him with a blow to the head..."
Teyare: "Someone must have attacked him! He had some enemies in the court, many murmured behind him for being of a culture and religion different from that of the common people!"

Imagen 95.jpg

The death of Huaishen was another tough loss for Teyare, he had some friendship with his cousin. His mourning lasted as long as Hatgara's, many people mourned his death.
Teyare found no consolation in his wife Praniyati, she was not affected by the death of Huaishen, who if approached to console him was Nong Shi'er the young courtesan who had arrived in Arsi with Sung Yuanying fleeing the civil war:

Teyare: "We grew up together since we were kids, he was my family, he helped my father and me in the government, I can not get over it."
Shi'er: "Teyare, the life and the death are two phases of the same. Life does not begin with birth or end with death, everything in the universe is subject to these phases. Our individual lives are also part of this great cosmic rhythm. We must face the death with serenity and reflect and meditate to reduce the suffering it causes."

Shi'er's words fell deep into Teyare's heart, although Huaishen was a taoist, Teyare kept hope in his Buddhist faith.
This did not stop Teyare from becoming a paranoid man, the death of his father and cousin motivated him to hire catadores and bodyguards for his safety.

Imagen 96.jpg

Who would take the place of Huaishen in the council? It was a question that was in Teyare's head for days. No one in the kingdom seemed to match the administrative capabilities of Huaishen.
However, it came to Teyare's ear that Li Song, the last living descendant of the Tang family who ruled China before the yurchen invasion, had taken refuge in the neighboring territory of Turtam. He was dedicating himself to poetry because it seems that he did not find an influential place in the government.

Imagen 97.jpg

Li Song accepted Teyare's invitation and soon reached the court of Arsi. After talking with him, Teyare realized that he is a fair, sociable and charitable man, a good personality to work diligently as a steward.

Imagen 98.jpg

Song: "I am the grandson of the great emperor Li Daizong, the penultimate great Tang emperor! All my family has died, the yurchen had no pity with us."
Teyare: "You will be safe here, I need a man like you in my kingdom. I want you to tell me about your land and the chinese court."
Song: "I was born in Chang'an, I am a son of Li Kuo and a concubine, I lived in the court of my grandfather and my uncle Li Daozong many years, there I was able to know the pleasures of life. When the yurchen invasion occurred, my father and I were among the first to flee, we arrived in the western regions and we lived as beggars in Turtam. When my father died I decided to retire to the desert there I lived for several years until I decided to return to civilization. Saru, the governor of Turtam, received me and gave me protection. The yurchen do not know about my existence."
Teyare: "What can you tell me about cities in China and the trade?"
Song: "Chang'an and Luoyang are cities a hundred times bigger than this one and much more populated. There you can find traders of many origins: sogdians, persians, tibetans, indians and also tocharians. The camel caravans reduced their activity when the war started, but I guess that now has to change."

The new council of Arsi began to meet with new members, Li Song was not the only one, Nong Shi'er was named Upadhyayani, his faith and virtue earned the admiration of Teyare.

Imagen 99.jpg

The presence of chinese in the cities and villages, even in Teyare's own court, generated some discomfort in some people. The rumors soon reached the ears of Teyare through Li Song himself.
Many tocharians began to fear that the chinese culture displaced the local culture, for example, Sundari increasingly disapproved of the government of his firstborn. Mother and son practically had no deal. Although many years passed, Sundari still had the same personality as when she was young, an ambitious, diligent, sociable and ambiguous woman, however, so many years in the shadows plotting intrigues generated a lot of stress.
Despite the differences she had with Hatgara over the upbringing of Teyare and Durmukhe, Sundari still missed her husband. Teyare resembled Hatgara, however, unlike her husband, she sees him as a naive and fragile king.

Imagen 100.jpg

Taking advantage of the peace, Teyare went to great lengths to make deals with the merchants who arrived at the markets, this caused him great stress because the caravans that passed through the cities of Teyare were less and less. Teyare entrusted Li Song with the task of finding out why this was happening.

Imagen 101.jpg

Over the decades the Tarim basin was divided into four kingdoms that were in the hands of powerful noble families. The weakness of nearby empires allowed the flourishing of local cultures, the saka in the west and the tocharians in the east.

Imagen 102.jpg

While Teyare was unveiling in Arsi with the affairs of the government, Shri, the wife of Durmukhe, gave birth to Tarkare. Durmukhe's ambitions to become king of Arsi-Kucha were now more latent.

Hopefully the new Emperor won't come calling to chase those refugees

Chapter IX

The year 803 began with good news for the Kusara family, after his unsuccessful rebellion and his subsequent imprisonment, Saru Turtam died in the dungeons of the yurchen general. So, his ugly son Mitre assumed as governor of the city, next to him was his wife Trasisi, the sister of Teyare.
The news was well received in Arsi, Teyare and her family went to Turfan to visit Trasisi which was very hopeful since her marriage with Mitre had been arranged when she was very small, she had been waiting for this moment for a long time.

Imagen 105.jpg

A longing for Hatgara had been fulfilled, one member of the Kusara family ruled in a neighboring kingdom, thus the family expanded its influence.
Teyare meditated a lot on this question of marriages, his son Kumaraya was by to reach the adulthood. Wästarye advised Teyare about the noble girls of the region:

Wästarye: "There is no tocharian girls with whom to arrange a betrothal, neither sakas."
Teyare: "Think in other options, we must leave our little pond, Kumaraya is destined to perform great feats, their future wife must be at their level."
Wästarye: "En el Tíbet hay una princesa, una de las hijas de Mutri Purgyal, el emperador tibetano..."
Teyare: "The Tibetans are regaining their strength, it is possible that in a few years they will once again be a power. Wästarye, you will go to Lhasa in order to improve relations with Mutri Purgyal. "

The travel to Lhasa was very long, Wästarye had to cross the mountains, a territories of the enemy shamanic tribes of the Purgyal dynasty. After almost a month, Wästarye returned to Arsi with good news.

Imagen 106.jpg

Mutri did not give a quick answer, he is a pious buddhist emperor, the meditation is something necessary for the decisions. All his daughters had arranged betrothals with young princes from the kingdoms who did not accept the authority of Lhasa, evidently Mutri is interested in recovering the greatness of the tibetan empire. Tsenma is the only daughter of Mutri that is not arranged with any young nobleman.
Finally, Mutri accepted Teyare's proposal.

Imagen 108.jpg

Otherwise, Li Song was dedicated to travel the length and breadth of the commercial routes that transit the great Tarim basim. There he was able to talk with many people about the commercial flow, which had declined in the kingdom of Arsi. Teyare had entrusted him with the task of finding out the reason.

Imagen 109.jpg

After gathering enough information, Li Song appeared before Teyare:

Song: "Many merchant caravans are preferring the route that transits through the south of Taklamakán."
Teyare: "What is the reason for such behavior?"
Song: "The problem is the neighboring kingdom of Krorän. After the death of Cakravar the kingdom was submerged in a great disorder. Only the will and ability of Alsamgya, the widow of Cakravar and mother of king Sanwatse, could bring the kingdom out of that pit."
Teyare: "I understand. We prospered when they were in disorder. So, we have two options: submerge them again in the disorder or remove the Krorän and subjugate their lands."
Song: "A war would mean a great cost for our kingdom. Also, Alsamgya's armies are more numerous than ours."
Teyare: "We already defeated them before. A woman and a child can not challenge the greatness of the Kusara family."

Imagen 110.jpg

First, Teyare sent to Sanwatse a proposal to accept the yoke of Arsi. The answer was a clear negative, this was just a formality, Teyare knew that they would not accept.
Durmukhe was in charge to organize the army for the war, but did not contribute to all of his warriors. The war was returning again to the east of the arid Taklamakan.

Imagen 111.jpg

Before leaving, Teyare made a speech in front of all his warriors motivating them for war, after finishing his speech, the warriors cheered him.

Teyare: "We must have confidence in our army, we were never defeated. My father Hatgara personally defeated Siddharthe Krorän, years later his reckless son Cakravar decided to attack us until his insult finally cost him his life. Today we march for the glory and for the riches that we will obtain!"
Warriors: Hurrah!

The army departed from Mingoi, Teyare commanded the center of the army and next to him were the commander Sung Yuanying and Klpapatre, the mayor of Korla.

Imagen 112.jpg

The kingdom of Krorän is shaped, in large part, by the Taklamakan desert. It was not easy to lead an army through this hostile and arid territory. The scouts did not see the enemy army, however, the arsians also did not find anyone in the villages they visited.

Yuanying: "There is no one, the inhabitants are gone. This smells bad... it is possible that we are going directly to an ambush..."
Teyare: "Now we can not go back, we are closer to the enemy capital than to Arsi."

Teyare was not wrong, his army reached the capital of Krorän the next day, the forced marches in the desert were very difficult, however, the prize was there ahead, not even Hatgara had gotten that far.
Sung Yuanying used his knowledge and was in charge of directing the siege of the city and building ladders to climb the walls and a battering ram with which to attack the city gate.
The city was waiting for the arrival of Arsi's army, they had been gathering supplies for a prolonged siege, and that was the reality. The days turned into weeks and the weeks into months, the city could not be bent.

Klpapatre: "My lord, our supplies have been reduced and there is no place nearby where we can get more..."
Yuanying: "This situation has turned against us, the morale of our warriors is demoralizing..."
Teyare: "We must try it one more time! Let's organize a general attack on the entire city wall."

That same night a messenger arrived at Teyare's tent:

Messenger: "I bring news of Turfam, my lord."
Teyare: "Tell me, what happened?"
Messenger: "Your brother-in-law Mitre has been murdered under very suspicious conditions, possibly by order of the yurchen general. Also, your sister Trasisi is pregnant..."

Imagen 113.jpg

Teyare immediately organized a procession to take Trasisi to Arsi. He for a moment thought of the brief experience of his aunt Aryakose in Dunhuang, it would seem that the Kusara were doomed to failure in the chinese western territories.

Imagen 114.jpg

When all ready preparations Teyare ordered the full attack against Krorän, the warriors climbed the walls and also used a battering ram to destroy the main gate. When they entered the city a fierce battle began in which the arsians defeated their enemy. The garrison showed fierce resistance, but this did not stop Alsamgya, the regent of the kingdom, from being captured with her daughter Puwari.
Teyare ordered to send his two prisoners to Arsi, however, there was no sign of Sanwatse, the true king. Where is the young king hiding?

Imagen 115.jpg

A successful assault in just the nick of time, or so it sounds.

Chapter X

With the fall of Krorän the arsian army obtained many riches and spoils of the city, Teyare decided to forgive the life of the population, the objective is to subjugate them and integrate them into the thriving kingdom of Arsi-Kucha, the future kingdom of Arsi-Kucha- Krorän, the kingdom of the tocharians.
However, rumors ran that the main enemy army was nearby, this would be commanded by Udayi, the brother of the late Cakravar and uncle of Sanwatse, the boy king.
Teyaré evaluated the situation together with his commanders and decided to keep the army in Krorän in order to start installing the new government. A few days later the enemy army arrived from the east.
Teyare's army was slightly outnumbered, the forces were practically equal, this was the perfect opportunity to realize the victory. The battle began with the classic interchange of projectiles.

Imagen 116.jpg

The arsian army had resupplied after conquering Krorän, for which they were in good condition for the battle, the warriors could maintain the line without the enemies taking advantage of their slight numerical superiority. After a while, the center commanded by Teyare began to overwhelm the enemy center.

Imagen 117.jpg

After this, the battle was won by the arsianos without difficulties, the army of Krorän was split in half making it impossible for both parties to coordinate an efficient counterattack.

Imagen 118.jpg

It was a quick and easy victory, Teyare did not order to pursue the enemy, he ordered return to the city. A few days later Teyaré started the march to Arsi, the city of Krorän was under the supervision of a garrison.

Imagen 119.jpg

Yuanying: "This kingdom is very large, an arid desert, it will be very difficult to maintain a garrison here, we only control the city of Krorän but Sanwatse has vassals who can raise arms for him and take back the city."
Teyare: "What you say makes sense, but, what can we do? We can not risk it and go find a new battle, we have already won twice and we have obtained a lot of loot, it's time to return to home."

Both were right in their approach, the problem was the war itself, the war had not been planned correctly from the beginning, Teyare was determined to conquer Krorän and got it, and after? In addition to the economic objectives, the war was aimed at giving an injection of prestige to the government of Teyare.

After leaving Krorän, the arsian army was reached by a small group of enemy warriors who came forward to harass in the distance, the arsian warriors quickly overtook them and also began firing projectiles at them.

Imagen 120.jpg

Teyare personally led the attack against these upstart enemies, they attacked from a hill. At the moment when Teyare and his warriors climbed that hill they could see a much larger army that was just behind.

Imagen 121.jpg

The arsian army soon abandoned the attack and formed a defensive position, the enemies surpassed them numerically.
Without escape, the arsians fought for their lives, many brave warriors died by arrows, Teyare himself was hit by an arrow, on more than one occasion he was saved from death by his personal guard.
The great wealth obtained in the city of Krorän were recovered by their owners, everything had been lost, including the life, at least for almost half of the arsians.

Imagen 122.jpg

The arsians arrived disbanded to Mingoi, the nearest city of the kingdom, the people received them astonished, with this event the king Teyare had lost much prestige.

Teyare: "We must reorganize our army, recruit a massive levy, all those who can wield a weapon should be ready for war. Send a message to my brother Durmukhe so that he can present himself immediately with the warriors of Kucha and Kubera!"
Yuanying: "My lord, that is impossible, if we do that the kingdom will be completely destroyed. We must accept defeat and avoid a catastrophe."

The only thing that changed Teyare's mind was the size of the enemy army when it reached the outskirts of Mingoi after destroying the surrounding fields, numerically it was impossible to face such an army. The vassals of Sanwatse had agreed to help their king by bringing their warriors. Only remained the surrender.

Imagen 123.jpg

The terms of the surrender were presented by Sung Yuanying in representation of the kingdom of Arsi-Kucha:

Sanwatse: "What does the upstart king Teyare have to offer me?"
Yuanying: "My lord offers his surrender and payment of compensation for the problems caused in your territory."
Sanwatse: "My only will is enough for my army to tear up the foundations of your cities and take captive all your people."
Yuanying: "We are offering an honorable surrender, but if what you want is war you will not leave us another option..."

Only Yuanying's insight prevented the total destruction of the kingdom built by Hatgara.

Imagen 124.jpg

Teyare returned to his residence in Arsi, where he was well received by his children Kumaraya and Sati and his sister Trasisi, she showed her children, she had twins! He named them in honor of his two grandparents, the first was named Hatgara, and the second to leave the womb, Saru, in honor of Saru Turtam.

Imagen 125.jpg

Kumaraya appealed to his father about the military campaign against Krorän, he manifested his interest in attacking again in order to avenge all the warriors killed in the battles, Kumaraya understood his father's surrender as an affront to the kingdom, the kingdom that he would inherit in the future.
Teyare took this opportunity to instill in his son the virtue of patience, a necessary virtue to avoid making bad decisions, Teyare thought that his decision to have attacked Krorän was too impulsive.

Imagen 126.jpg

A few weeks after the peace agreement with Sanwatse Krorän, the chancellor Wästarye, a very important man during the governments of Hatgara and Teyare, died in Arsi. He had managed to establish good relations with practically all the neighboring kingdoms. Teyare had just lost a skilled diplomat. Wästarye had a daughter named Aryaraksite.

Imagen 127.jpg

With the death of Wästarye, Teyare lost an important ally in the court, less and less people saw with displeasure the government of Teyare, this was conditioned by the great loss of prestige after the war and the diminution of the treasure of the kingdom. The situation had become critical.

Imagen 128.jpg

Things sound liek they are getting rather dire

Chapter XI

The young Kumaraya had finished his studies, had become an acceptable warrior, Teyare was sure that his son would improve with time, father and son now shared the tasks of government. Kumaraya was a moderate and patient young man, he enjoyed great prestige in Arsi, possibly thanks to his manly mustache.

Imagen 129.jpg

Purnayi also reached the adulthood. During his childhood he suffered several diseases that affected his intellectual capacity. Despite this, she is very kind and charitable.
Her brothers Teyare and Trasisi appreciate her and have taken care of her, her mother Sundari, however, always felt a certain rejection for she, more than once she thought about abandoning her when she was a baby.

Imagen 130.jpg

The failed war against Krorän had left the treasure in ruins. Li Song was responsible for collecting a considerable amount of money with donations that several families of the kingdom. However, these donations were not enough for the kingdom to recover the lost glory.

Imagen 131.jpg

Li Song thought of a way to bring more income to the kingdom and went to look for Teyare. He plans to establish a new trade route with a foreign kingdom with which they were not trading at that time. After thinking about several options, it occurred to him that the kingdom of Sumparu, in Tibet, would be a good option. It is a kingdom of pagan mountaineers

Imagen 132.jpg

After evaluating the situation, Teyare decided to accept the entrepreneurship. Dozens of camels, mules and horses were taken to Arsi to transport the goods, these beasts of burden were brought by a group of Uyghur bandits who stole them near the city of Urumqi, northeast of Arsi.

Imagen 133.jpg

Several buddhist monks also appeared before Teyare to express their desire to be part of the entourage in exchange for paying a sum of money, they are interested in traveling to Sumparu in order to spread their religion there.

Imagen 134.jpg

This entrepreneurship was announced in Arsi with great pomp, the delegation was composed of hundreds of people, including Teyare and Li Song.
The government of the kingdom was in care of Kumaraya, he would be advised by the commander Sung Yuanying and Nong Shi'er, the Upadhyayani.
After several days through the mountains the delegation arrived at a village where, according to the locals, the king of Sumparu lived. It was a great surprise to know that it was a woman, Brizhalda from the house Samtho. The arrival of the arsianos merchants generated much hubbub in the town, hundreds of mountaineers coming down from the mountains to exchange their products. Juan presented the queen with a gift of fine fabrics.

Imagen 135.jpg

After more than a week, the delegation began the return to Arsi, a new commercial route had been established. The products obtained would be sold in the cities of the kingdom of Arsi at a very good price, the real treasure could be recovered.

Imagen 136.jpg

When Teyare arrived to Arsi he was quickly received by his son Kumaraya:

Kumaraya: "You finally arrive! We are in serious trouble..."
Teyare: "My son, what's wrong?"
Kumaraya: "My uncle Durmukhe, your brother, has rebelled in Kucha."
Teyare: "Damn it!"
Kumaraya: "The Kucha and Kubera garrisons are at your command. He intends to take away the title of king."

Imagen 137.jpg

Durmukhe had always longed for the kingdom for himself, he was waiting for the right moment to strike. The indicated moment came after the unsuccessful war of Teyare against Krorän and after the death of the chancellor Wästarye who had always advocated a good relationship between the brothers.

Imagen 138.jpg

It was the first civil war in the kingdom of Arsi-Kucha, it seemed that the dream of Hatgara was doomed to collapse because of a dispute between brothers that since childhood could not be resolved.
Technically, Teyare had an army more numerous than his brother, however, Durmukhe increased the number of his warriors by accepting several bandits and smugglers.

Imagen 139.jpg

For the purpose of legitimize his reign, Teyare took the spear of his father Hatgara, this spear had an important symbolism for the Kusara family, its owner acquired an extra dose of prestige among the warriors.
Teyare, for his part, decided to entrust the command of the army to the experienced Sung Yuanying. Kumaraya was also as commander, the boy was a decent warrior and it was time to prove his worth.

Imagen 140.jpg

The arsians went out to meet the kuchans, brother against brother. Durmukhe chose a defensive position near the border between Arsi and Kucha, encamped his army in the village of Kesil, where the battle took place.
The forces were equal, Teyare ran the right flank of his army, fought in the front line waiting to meet his brother face to face, however, it seemed that Durmukhe was not fighting there, his army was commanded by his vassals.
The flanks of the arsians defeated their enemies and could thus envelop the center of the kuchans, they soon began to flee.

Imagen 141.jpg

The battle of Kesil was a decisive victory but not a final victory, in Kucha was the final resistance of Durmukhe. The siege lasted for almost a month until the city soon began to suffer from hunger. The gates of the city were opened against the will of Durmukhe.

Imagen 142.jpg

Durmukhe was dragged out of his residence, Teyare humiliated him in front of everyone and chained him. What to do with his rebellious brother?
Teyare thought about executing him, however, this was not a solution with which he could live the rest of his life. Durmukhe would pay his affront with the prison.

Imagen 143.jpg

So "nice" when brothers fall out. Though very in keeping for the times of course.
