Do you have the steam version?
Do you have the cd-key pop-up in the right side of the screen? It is blocking the "Play" button.

Unfortunately i don't think that's it. The "preparing to launch" message appears when you first tell Steam to start the game.

@paulspence: Have you made sure your graphic drivers are up to date? Can you post your system spec and the content of the log_metro.txt (found in /User/My Documents/Cities in Motion).

Hi giladteller, here is the log_metro.txt : Opened log in "userdata/log_metro.txt".

Hello all, sorry to hijack but I have a similar issue, and it seems like many others do too. Not sure what changed or happened, but haven't been able to play game for a couple of months now. I gave up trying to fix it but have had time recently to come back to it so thought I'd ask here.

Have done all the usual recommended things like updating drivers, uninstalling, reinstalling - nothing so far that I can find in any other threads has worked so this is my last attempt at trying to play a game I paid good money for, before I ditch it and never have anything to do with Paradox/Steam again.

If anyone can help, metro log reads:

Opened log in "userdata/log_metro.txt".
Version: 1.0.21
initializing FMOD...
[done]
initializing OpenGL-window...
Error: Runtime error in "metro/scripts/window.script" at line 45: Internal error!
Error: Runtime error in "metro/scripts/init.script" at line 27: Internal error!
Closed log in "userdata/log_metro.txt".

I have no idea what this means, unfortunately. The game icon on desktop just blinks briefly but nothing else happens. It is apparently running in task manager as a process but not an application and has to be ended manually. Running XP sp3.

Let me know if this needs to be posted elsewhere.

Thanks all.

EDIT: Where it states 'Error: Runtime error in "metro/scripts/window.script" at line 45: Internal error!' after initialising GL window...can someone explain this for me? I am using Radeon HD3650 and the game ran fine for months before this seemingly happened out of the blue. As far as I know, I didn't have anything to do with 'GL' as am not even sure what it is.

Cheers.

The error happens when the game is trying to load you graphic settings from "My Documents\Cities in Motion\settings.script"
Maybe the file is corrupt, try to delete it and launch the game again.

Thanks gilad - already tried that but no dice. How would this file have got corrupted? Would also be useful to know what is the significance of the game still showing as running as a process but not as an application?

The game seems to edit the settings file whenever it launches, so it could have just glitched out. It happened to me a month or so back.

As for the error, the line 45/27 stuff is related to the graphics settings. You say you've tried upgrading the driver. Have you tried downgrading it? I remember a few weeks ago someone posting that the latest ATI drivers pushed out for RAGE are/were buggy.

I am having similar issues here and not sure how to update drivers etc.

I am running a fairly new PC with windows 7

I bought the steam version and I have managed to find the log. see below

I deleted the script file, but no joy afterwards.

After clicking the shortcut key, the screen momentarily goes blank and then back to normal as if the game didnt launch.

Help please

What are your computer specs?
CPU, memory, graphic card (which card and how much memory it has).

To the people having issues are you using mods or edited the game?
- Have you tried to reinstall the game via steam? There is a post on steam how to do it.
- Are you playing the game on a notebook or Desktop as, graphic card do differ to some extent from notebook to Desktop. (specs please)
- Also when reinstalling your graphic card run a program called "DriverSweeper" I used "DriverSweeper_1.5.5" when I had issue with another game. Not sure if there is more up to date out there. you can find it on the web try to google it.

- And last just in case as it can't hurt the "Cities in Motion" folder depending where you installed the game and set "User" to "Full Access" if more explanation of my suggestion is needed let me know.

@paulspence
Your graphic card is way below game specs. Is it possible to upgrade your card? Note: on a notebook it's impossible I'm afraid.
Your card spechttp://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/other/Pages/x1900-specifications.aspx Vs http://www.paradoxplaza.com/games/cities-in-motion requirements
