Yeah, started playing CK2 again and I noticed that my GPU fan is at full speed, temp around 70 degrees. Nvidia 9800GTX, 295.73 but am now downloading the latest ones 296.10. Also, it seems as if the screen is tearing when I play, I get sudden black lines across it, not a huge gamestopping problem, but annoying regardless.

Came on here to check if anyone else was having the issue. Not the only one it seems!

Getting frequent crashes since 105f

Hi,
In my current game as Castille, I am experiencing frequent crashes to desktop. I notice that my GPU fan is running full power and my temps are over 70 degrees. I dont know if this is related, but also I am getting screen flickering (like black lines that flicker across the screen), so it points towards n overheated graphics card, although I dont know.

I can play for about a year, then it crashes. When I start the game, I can usually play for a lot longer, but now its crashing regularly. I have posted my save game as Navarre (ex Castille), and my dxdiag. Thanks.
*edit* and my log files since latest CTD.

If its worth noting, I took the side off my case this afternoon, and I have just played straight through 3 hours solid with not a single CTD. I believe, because of the flickering, its an overheated graphics card. Case side off, no problems.

I've merged you into one of the existing threads on this topic. One thing that has come up before in relation to it is frame rates, with people reporting fps in the 100s. Can you use fraps or similar to see what fps you are at, and to dial your frame rate down to something reasonable, say 60 or even 48, to see if that helps?

It could also be worthwhile to use compressed air to dust out your computer (turn it off first).

Obviously this won't fix any underlying issue with the game but it may help with heat issues.

I think this is my issue as well, but instead of a crash to desktop, the game freezes with the exception of the mouse. I have to task manager out of it.

1. CPU 48->60, GPU 45->67 (Both in degrees Celsius)
2. 60fps
3./4. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M (Driver version 301.42)

Additional info
OS: Windows 7
Resolution: 1920X1080 (also tried at lower resolutions but didn't help)
draw_trees, draw_sky, and draw_water are all turned off.

my two year old macbook pro, which meets all the graphics/processor specifications, is running at 180 degrees F when i quit the game after an hourish session.

i downloaded smcFanControl to try and boost the fan setting and stop the game from doing the same freezing process aeyamar just mentioned and will report back if i don't get any freezes (so far so good, but at 180 degrees i'm not optimistic)

I'm not sure why you think this is your issue, as you've pretty much ruled out everything that has been mentioned in this thread. You don't have excessive fan speed (that you've mentioned), temperatures or fps. Those temps are fairly normal for a laptop - you could compare with what you get with other games.

This whole thread is about the PC version, so it's unlikely what's been said here refers to your Mac version at all. That said, 180f is 82c and that's pretty high.

Can you please check in your nVidia software whether VSync is disabled? If so please enable it and try the game again. Thank you.

ha, i read this whole thread and never put that together. anyway, i'll just keep playing for short little bursts until this overheating issue for macs gets worked out. i wonder if playing on the balcony in the 50 degree night will help...

Hi, in ten minutes of play I was averaging between 50 and 60fps. I enabled vsynch in the control panel, but that didnt help anyway (refresh rate of 60). I downloaded dxtory and gave that a go, limiting the fps to 30, which it did, and I ran it two hours and no CTDs. The dxtory prog is not freeware, so I dont know how long I have to use it before I need to buy it. It is obviously overheating. I will also buy some compressed air and clean out my fans this coming week.

This is a recent occurrence, although we have had a heatwave here in the UK for the past several days.

people with overheating problems need to limit there FPS to 30. And stop the gfx card from running the game at an unnecessary 50, 60 fps.
