This is a thread for the CK events dealing with the British Isles.
The meta-thread for CK events is here.

According to Crook in the FAQ-thread, Snowball has started collecting events for Russia.
I was wondering if we should try doing the same. I suppose we should try following a template of sorts, this is a suggestion only:

Code:
Event Date
Event Location
Event Name
Event Description
Event Effect in RL (short term)
Source

Sergei points out that events should primarily be of *special* or *less-known* character that enrich the gaming experience. The ideas don't need to be very detailed, which will also allow the developers to tweak the events.

England/France/Normandy?
Bayeux Tapestry/Tapisserie de la reine Mathilde
The Bishop Odo commissioned the Bayeux Tapestry to celebrate and record for posterity the events leading up to the battle of Hastings and its aftermath. The Tapestry covers the arrival of Harold in Normandy and concludes with his death and defeat of the English. After it was finished, it was put on display in the Church of Notre Dame in Bayeux, which was consecrated by Bishop Odo in 1077.

Dublin breaks away from Canterbury
In 1152, the religious see of Dublin, following general synod at Kells, the opted to become an Irish archbishopric, spurning the ecclesiatical rule of the Archbiship of Canterbury in England. Shortly after, when Henry II became King of England, the idea of invading Ireland resurfaced apparently as it had during the previous reigns of William the Conqueror and Henry I. Ecclesiastic reaction to the loss of the see of Dublin was taken on by Pope Adrian IV, at the insistance of the envoys from Canterbury, who invested Henry and his successors the right to rule Ireland and to bring about religious reformation there.
Effect: Henry II given a right to rule Ireland

Agricultural Crisis
A gradual climactic shift in the British Isles since the Roman era toward a colder, rainier climate, combined with the increased needs of a growing population, finally took its toll in the early 14th Century. Between 1315 and 1317, a series of terrible floods and famines struck England. This was followed by a widespread cattle disease which ravaged English ranches from 1319 to 1321 and a devastating crop failure in 1321. These agricultural setbacks reduced the population of England by an estimated 15 percent.
Effect: tax base/population/manpower reductions in certain provinces?

oh whoops, I thought maybe now was the time that I could put some of my schooling to use, but perhaps I was wrong :)

edit: gah nevermind, I'm just confused... well, it's better than trying to write a Black Death event for Britain, eh?

No your event/s is fine everything historic is useful, I think for the game desigers since they can balance the game with it if required.

Was Westminster Abbey opened in 1065 or 1066? My sources do not agree on it, but I think it *could* be useful as an event if it's the latter...

* 1077
* England
* Windsor castle
* William the Conqueror had Windsor castle erected to monitor travel on the Thames river
* I suppose the effect could perhaps be increased income in one province... the source doesn't say very much.:)

* 1100s
* Northern Ireland
* The coming of whiskey
* In Northern Ireland, Bushmill's distillery began producing whiskey.
* I'd suggest a slightly increased province income, or perhaps a free distillery building if such will exist in the game.

EU2 province of Lancashire ( CK who knows ) England
Founding of City of Liverpool
King John Founds City of Liverpool to provide port for raids on Ireland.

Provide some sea power in whatever form it may take to raid the Irish with.

This probably should be the name of the city in Eu2 Lancashire anyways...seeing as Lancaster is not a port.

Also provided raids on the U.S.A. in the early '60s - know as the British invasion. King John was thinking WAY ahead of his time.:D

Wycliffe
John of Wycliffe, a former royal envoy to Curia, has attacked the rights of ecclesiastic property and dominion in support of the Good Parliament refusing tribute demanded by the pope.
Wycliffe, expanding his mentor Richard Fitz-Ralph doctrine, claims that the church has no concern with temporal matters at all, that for the clergy to hold property is sinful, and that it is lawful for statesmen—who are God’s stewards in temporals— to take away the goods of such of the clergy as, by reason of their unrighteousness, no longer render the service by which they hold them.
Wycliffe has gained the support of the peasants, burghers and the nobles for his views. The university of Oxford has refused to co-operate with the ecclesiastic authorities, who are greatly angered by Wycliffe’s heresy. They claim he is perpetuating the heresy of Marsilius of Padua.
either co-operate with ecclesiastic and gain support of clergy and the Patrimony of St. Peter but lose support of the rest or vice versa

I have been reading up on Wat Tyler. It seems that causes of his and other peasant's discontent were several. Is it better to have a Wat Tyler event or a "Statute of Labourers" event?
