One line summary of your issue
[3.3.0](XDSW) Game can't get keyboard input, minimizes itself

Game Version
3.3.0

What expansions do you have installed?
All of the above

Do you have mods enabled?
No

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
Playing on Ubuntu Budgie 18.04 LTS. Have all DLC except Pagan Fury Warrior Queen music pack. Full screen at 3440x1440. I have just begun experimenting with windowed mode, and it seems to have at least fixed the issue with the game minimizing itself. However, in full screen, the keyboard input issue is only triggered when the game also experiences an issue with minimizing itself. In windowed mode, the keyboard issue can be triggered simply by opening the Steam overlay.

In some instances, the game loses the ability to receive keyboard input. No button presses seem to register in the game at all. The only way I have been able to find to fix it is to close the game and reopen it. Since the Esc key doesn't work, the only way to do so is to find the main menu button under the minimap. This has happened to me 5-6 times in the 14 hours I have clocked as played in the last two weeks. 14 seems high, though. I would think even 10 would be quite a bit given my opportunities to play. Shift+tab still brings up the Steam overlay successfully, but I can't actually type in any chat windows, and I can alt+tab out and interact with the rest of my computer just fine once I'm not in game.

I initially thought this was tied to window focus somehow, which I have also had issues with. The two always go hand in hand if the game is maximized, but the keyboard issue isn't triggered 100% of the time by the minimization issue. Sometimes, the game window minimizes itself for no discernible reason, though seemingly always under the same conditions. However, further testing with windowed mode suggest the issue is more closely tied to the Steam overlay.

The first is as regular as clockwork, and that's when the game launches IN FULL SCREEN. Minimal testing with windowed mode shows this instance does not occur with windowed mode. After the game launches and goes through initial loading screens, it tries to go to the main menu, and the game minimizes itself. It maximizes, and everything seems fine. I don't think I've ever experienced issues from this. Maybe just once I had issues.

The second minimization trigger is more random in whether it actually triggers it, but it is also the only one I'm 100% sure has triggered the keyboard input issues. Sometimes, when I open the Steam overlay to chat with a friend, clicking on the chat box (possibly other windows, don't really use the overlay for other things so far) may cause the game to minimize. Seems about 50/50 at this point if I trigger the keyboard input issue. Again, if I do, the only way to fix it is to exit the game and restart.

When I put the game in windowed mode, the very first time I opened the Steam overlay, despite the game experiencing no minimization or focus issue that I could see, it immediately triggered the keyboard bug.

I may have encountered the keyboard issue from an alt+tab once, but I may be misremembering that.

I have managed to partially fix it just once, and it seems to support my idea of a connection between the two issues. By toying with alt+tabbing with the Steam overlay closed and opened, I managed to restore the ability to type in Steam overlay chat windows, but not the ability to give keyboard commands in game. The attempt that helped was specifically doing so while the Steam overlay was open.

Due to the connection with Steam overlay use, I can make a guess that there is some issue with negotiating who gets keyboard input or something. Maybe Steam gets it and doesn't give it back, or maybe CK2 somehow doesn't realize the overlay has handed it back somehow. Or maybe it's the other way around, and the overlay is simply the trigger for the game's issue with window focus and/or keyboard input.

Steps to reproduce the issue.
1. Launch game in full screen. Game minimizes as initial load completes and tries to transition to main menu. If the game is in windowed mode, the game does not minimize and seems to have no issue at this point.
2. Unminimize the game and continue saved game (I think it might have happened the first time before I'd quit to take a break, but I could be wrong)
3. While playing, open the Steam overlay. If the game is in windowed mode, nothing here triggers the minimization issue. However, this is sufficient to trigger the keyboard issue.
4. If the game is in full screen, attempt to interact with a chat window. This is very likely but not guaranteed to trigger the game to minimize. This minimization similarly is very likely but not guaranteed to trigger the keyboard issue.

Hi, thank you for your report!

I actually had they keyboard problem happen to me a couple of times while testing on Ubuntu, but closed the ticket we had on it as I couldn't find a way of reproducing it and as it stopped happening after a while. As none of the other testers who tested on Linux reported encountering it I assumed it was local to my machine. I have reopened the ticket now with the information you provided.

About the game minimizing itself I can't remember encountering this myself. I'll make a new ticket for this and link it to the keyboard ticket and your post.
