The Gothic portraits are based on the Anglo-Saxon/Norman/English portraits. However, they have fewer hair colour choices. For Young and Old characters, there are five choices. For Middle-Aged characters, there are eleven choices. This means that most characters' hair colour changes when they hit 30, and changes back at 50. This is most jarring when they have hair colour #5, as that is black for young and old characters, and brown for middle-aged characters.
Edit: It also affects eye colour.
Steps to reproduce the issue.
Start creating a custom character, make them ethnically gothic, and play with the hair colour and age settings.
