Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
After a war I wanted to be crowned by clergy. For whatever reason the pope wasn't available so I tried to get a cardinal to do it. I think the Introduce Heir event also fired around the same time, as well as a random monastic order event. I paid for the coronation ceremony but it never completed. I had to start it all over again.

I noticed this happen too in one of my recent games. What I think happened in my case was I went for the Pope to do the coronatation, he agreed/I paid, BUT while stuff was underway he died (fun Italy disease outbreaks - random aside: I really wish papal/clergy members gained a health bonus so they didn't die as often. They usually had access to some of the ebst food of all people in Europe, except perhaps the more austere monastic orders that practiced what they preached).

Did the character of your clergyman change between the two instances, or was it the same person both times?

Now that you mention it I think it was a different person the second time but I honestly don't know for sure. I was so sure it was an event messing with it (I've had that problem with lodge/raiding events not playing nice with each other) it didn't occur to me to note what happened to priest in question.
