One line summary of your issue
Many text strings are corrupted with numbers and inappropriate symbols

Game Version
3.3.5 (BONV)

What expansions do you have installed?
Jade Dragon, Monks & Mystics, The Reapers Due, Conclave, Horse Lords, Way of Life, Charlemagne, Rajas of India, Sons of Abraham, The Old Gods, The Republic, Legacy of Rome, Sword of Islam, Holy Fury

Do you have mods enabled?
No

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
Certain names appear to get garbled and weird/inappropriate special characters get loaded in. I have seen this happen to character names, title names, and province names. I have a screen shot showing a Pecheneg Khagan who has a distorted name, as does the Titular Title he holds. I also have another one showing the county of c_epeiros with its name corrupted.

Steps to reproduce the issue.
This happens in any game I play, I honestly cannot remember when it started, I have been playing the game for years but always off and on, this most recent time I've been playing for a few months now and it's been present in all of my games--no matter any other game parameters (any starting realm, any mods / no mods, etc.) It wouldn't surprise me if it's some operating system issue with trying to localize certain special characters, but I was unable to find reference to others with the issue (may not have had right search terms) so figured I would submit a bug report.

Disclaimer: i'm just another forum member

1) The Checksum should be SOHY
(if not in the launcher for whatever reason, then at least right after start in the main menu bottom left)

That means your files are corrupted.
So next step should either be to do a 'verify intergity of game files' via the properties of the game in Steam
or if that doesn't work, then a clean reinstallation including a manual delete beforehand of the CK2 folder in
Steamapps/common to be safe.

2) That Epirus tooltip shows fine for me.

I would recommend to try to get the right checksum first, as mentioned above and if the issue is still around
afterwards, to contact tech support via the respective subforum or by submiting a support ticket on their page.

Thanks for the response and for the tooltip--check inside the text and I think you'll see what I'm talking about The county of < jumbled > is traditionally part of--this should highlight it:
As for the checksum, when I launch the game from Steam, the for I guess lack of a better word loading screen where you can select which DLC / mods are loaded shows 3.3.5 SOHY, I probably accidentally had a mod loaded when I saw the BONV value, I also re-validated the files just to be sure and still see the same behavior.

As i said, the tooltip is perfectly fine for me and i play in english as well.

1) Loading screen = Launcher. With the latter everyone should understand what you refer to.

2) The checksum that really matters is the one in the main menu bottom left.
That can still be different than the one in the launcher.

3) The issue can also be caused by a mod.
Deactivating the mod in the launcher doesn't fix that for that campaign, as the name will be written into the save file.
Though i think in the case here the game files might get read, so a guess by me.

4) If the revalidating hasn't worked, but you get the correct checksum in the main menu, then i seriously (!) recommend the clean
installation as mentioned earlier. Even validating won't always fix everything or delete redundant files.

5) Again, as last option i can only recommend to contact tech support.
(*later edit* : I see you did by now, but haven't mentioned the potential OS issue).
They will try to help you and will also have an idea regarding your operating system ("It wouldn't surprise me if it's some operating system
issue with trying to localize certain special characters"). I guess you had a good reason to mention it, so maybe it matters.

Try the clean reinstallation as described above first (or as tech support suggests).
If you hesitate to delete the folder, then just rename it (add an A_ or so in front/quit Steam before and restart after), before reinstalling CK2.

Localisation problems like these are a telltale sign of incorrectly encoded files. If verifying game files doesn't fix it in a new game, there must be a mod in play, or a far more serious issue.

Thanks for the assistance, a full reinstall did, in fact, correct the problem. While I frequently play with both no mods and a bunch of various mods, I had never seen the problem before, so I'm not sure what its root cause was but it is fixed for now and if it reoccurs I'll likely try to reproduce on my end a few different ways to see if I can pinpoint it, but otherwise not a big deal. Thanks again for the help.
