The question is quite straightforward; is it possible somehow to play DV in either widescreen or windowed mode (the latter probably being more likely)?

I was first going to post this in the technical support, but somehow I'm not sure if this fits there as it's not related to the game files, I think.

Feel free to move this if you feel so, though.

DV can be played in any resolution: edit settings.txt in the game root folder. It scales to widescreen natively.

You can also play in windowed mode (launch it with Crusaders.exe WINDOW) but this demands your desktop is set to 16-bit colour depth.

Alright, thanks for the reply, though whenever I edit the resolution in settings.txt, the image in game gets stretched in a way.

Also; I don't feel like making a new thread for this and I cannot find an answer through searching the forum; what was the console command to see your badboy level again?

The only way I know of to see specifically how one's badboy points are is holding cursor on a direct vassal's loyalty n looking at the reputation modifier which should be the very bottom one if there is a modifier for bb...only for landowners tho

What is the native resolution of your display and what are you setting the game to?
Are you running Windows 7 or Vista with the game installed in Program Files?

My desktop resolution is 1366x768. I tried setting same in the settings.txt file and it didn't work. I also tried some other resolution but I can't remember which any more.

I have Windows 7.

If the game is in Program Files you might not be able to edit settings.txt directly. Try copying it outside of Program Files, editing it, and copying it back. I recommend installing outside of Program Files to avoid issues like this.

I can edit the file alright, it just gives bad results in-game.

You can open the file. If the resolution isn't taking, the file is probably not be written properly because of Windows' UAC protection.

Also, note that while the actual game can be played at higher resolutions, the main menu and loading screens are still always 1024x768.

Ah that explains it. Never kept the resolution beyond the main menu. Thanks. :)

Hey dudes, this seems like an efficient way to ask my question. Feel free to move it if thought appropriate.

I play on a big screen TV (42") and my desktop is set to 1024x768. Three things:

1) When I start up CK, the Paradox video seems to get stuck for a while. It eventually finishes playing, but -Esc_ seems to either have a delayed response or no response. Never had this problem with any other Paradox games (including Mount & Blade).

2) The text and stuff in-game seems a bit on the small side, but I guess it is at max resolution (1024x768) given a guy above said that that is native, and that is also what my screen is set at. Any ideas how I could make it appear bigger?

3) Looking in my root game folder (E:programs/Paradox/CK/ I don't see any
"settings.txt" at all.

Running XP. Bought CK Complete off Gamersgate.

Rename the avi folder to stop the movies from playing. This also tends to make the game more stable since the movie player doesn't load at all.

Is the image filling the whole screen? If so, it's hard to believe the text is too small. The only way to make the text bigger would be to make the resolution smaller and it can't go any lower than 1024x768.

Did you install both CK and DV? I don't think CK can change the resolution at all so it probably wouldn't have the file. Only with DV installed can you increase the res.

I bought "Complete" on GG I thought I had DLed "Complete." When the game fires up I see a screen with Deus Vult, so I'm pretty confident I'm running a combined package that includes DV as well as the last patches which seem to have been about a year ago.

Thanks for the tips!

ADDIT: remed it to "renamed avi folder" and that did WONDERS for the startup speed!

in response to your other question, yes it does fill full screen, so I think it is probably running at absolute max resolution (biggest font). It is a really huge TV I'm playing on, so that probably explains why it still seems kinda small. Just have to scoot closer to it :)
