Okay, I got the patch installed in the main EUII folder, and now at startup it says 'excel path not found'. So now I can't even get in the game now
Are you sure you're running the EU2.exe in the main folder and not the one you installed in the scenarios folder? Perhaps at this point you should uninstall and reinstall (make sure you backup your saves!).

Okay, I uninstalled and reinstalled, made sure I put the patch in the correct main EUII file. I was able to select my save game and click on the shield but just like before it will freeze and say 'excel file not found' and asking if I want to continue and then crashing no matter what I select :( . It says 'v 1.09' in the corner, so I know the patch is installed. I just don't know what else to do; what is this 'excel file' it keeps going on about?

It's trying to find a game file that's not there (almost always indicates that the patch file is installed in the wrong directory). What happens if you navigate to the EU2 directory you originally installed the file into and run EU2.exe? The same thing?

You mean the exe. that actually starts the game, right? Yes, the same thing happens with nothing loading, just excel not found. You must be right, I can't seem to install it in the right folder. I seem to have two different EUII folders. Installing the patch into one of them caused the error message I just told you about. But I selected the file path to make sure it installed in that one's main EUII folder. I guess I'll have to unistall everything again to make sure there's only one.

It does sound like making sure everything is removed and starting again is the simplest option. Alternatively, try running the EU2.exe in each of those folders; if one works, install the patch on top of that :)

I reinstalled everything and I have just one folder now. I ran EU2.exe in the folder and it worked fine. You said install the patch on top of it. Does that mean installing the patch in the folder with EU2.exe in it? I thought that's what I've been doing :( . This folder has things like scenario editor, EUII_settings, AGC config, as well as a bunch of folders like GFX, localized, SFX, and scenarios. I think I'm close to solving this problem but I don't want to do anything untill I know exactly the right place to install the patch.

That's definitely the right place to install the patch... I know, that's what you've been doing, but it really should work!

Okay, I finally got everything to work right :) . My problem was two fold:

1. I didn't have the patch installed in the right folder.

2. I didn't have my CK sav file in the right folder.

Thanks, wryun, for all your help :) !
