What kind of "critical errors" are you taking CTDs or do you get an error message?

In either case make sure you have already updated windows, and all your video and audio drivers. Also ensure the basics are covered.
1) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
2) Set the color depth to 16BIT
3) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.

Okay make sure you follow the three steps I listed above and update your video and audio drivers.

Then next time it happens I need the exact error message.

I have not seen others complain here about SP2 interfereing so much we could not solve the problem though.

Yeah, listen to the man! We all know the survival time of an unprotected Windows Box is around 20 Minutes these days (See "Survival Time" on http://isc.sans.org/index.php), but please turn your firewalls and Antivirus softwares off just to make see that Paradox games also CTD without them. Ah, now, that wasn't fair, usually they are quite stable - after 6-8 patches.

Sorry Castellon, but your advice is simply irresponsible.
Well I hazard to guess, that I have a vast amount of more experience and solving problems with Paradox games than you do. ;)
I can tell you that after some people shut down their Antivirus programs all problems with Paradox games go away.

I also follow other game board support forum and can tell you that this is a common occurrence among lots of games.

And as for unprotected. If you are a smart and responcible surfer like myself you do not need any protection.
I have been on the internet since before WWW I have never had a firewall or antivirus protection and never had a virus or been hacked in anyway.

As this is the only post you have made I assume you registered just to post it. If you maintain that kind of posting habits I predict you will not maintain your posting privileges long. ;)

My list is to solve a number of potential problems, some will work for some others for others.
Glad your problem is solved.

regarding deleting the folder:
Do you mean the save game folder?
If you reboot you should be able to delete the folder.
Or you can just manually delete the files you have not used in that session.

Tell me exactly what the error says and I can help, If you would rather live with it, well, that is up to you.

The funny thing was, I do not even mention to turn Firewalls off, yet he quotes me as saying that.
Takes all kinds to make a world, I suppose. :)

If you don't want my advice don't take it!
I do not say play Over the internet for hours with no Firewall!
I am trying to remote diagnose a problem. I am seeing where the conflict arises.
The user is free to turn it back on when they have tried it. Further if they are that concerned they can unplug their connection before trying it. that is only common sense for the paranoid. ;)
Since you were not involved in this discussion and have a problem with my advice anyway, I will strongly suggest to you that you refrain from posting further in this forum, lest you find posting priveledges revoked.

Okay too many members posting with unrelated problems in one thread.
If you have a problem start your own thread please. It is too hard to track different users and different problems in one thread.
This thread is closed, everyone start a new thread only for yourselves please.
