Hi, everyone,

I just purchased CK Complete Version 2.0 on the Mac. I've read some things that say the game is not playable without the 2.1 PC Beta Patch. Is this accurate. I've loaded the game and everything seems to work fine. Just curious.

Thanks,
DW.

The latest patch is always recommended, because it includes fixes of various bug that didn't make it into the vanilla game. If the patch was not in the box, you'd be better off with installing it.

2.1 PC beta patch though?

As far as I. Know, the beta patches do not work on Mac. The company that ports them do not do so as long as it is in beta. So it seem mac owners are stuck with 2.0. It is playable though, but there will be some weirdness.

You could always try it out. Copy the unpatched game to a new folder, patch the original and see if it works.

I don't know about some features being unplayable without it; my recollection is that it reduced the number of crashes.

The biggest issue (besides the crashes) is the relationship bug. In 2.0 each time you start the relationship between rulers will be increased. So if they f.e. start with +20, then after a save/reload it will be +40 and then +60. This then will result in independent dukes/counts offering to become vassals of all kind of kings. f.e. the Russian princes will become vassals of the Byzantine Empire.

I knew it fixed that, but I never knew why. Thanks, Veld. I always wondered why Novgorod paid tribute to Michael VII Doukas by 1070. Then again, the Prince of Kiev becoming Emperor by the early 1100s was pretty cool. ;)
