Outrageous!

Eh, I believe that Paradox was simply flooded with ideas, and clearly only had so many that they could handle (note that to date we've basically only seen one team per game, except CK), so delay on their side makes a certain amount of sense.

Considering that the bugs in CK were never fixed to date, including some rather nasty ones (last beta patch: 2008-10-15), I think it may not be the best base for extension anyway.

Nice idea if it would result in anything like AoD, but wouldn't it be better / easier starting a new project from scratch on sourceforge or something? I think that would be much better than first trying to improve the old CK-engine. And I think you / we (as in we, the potential coding community) would get something playable much faster if we did it from scratch, rather than first going through the old source then doing something better with it.

Plus, we could do a Linux-port, CK/EU is probably way too tied to windows-stuff to port in a reasonable timeframe.

Edit: I think the biggest problem would be graphics. I love open source, but 99% of all games I've seen on sourceforge etc are pig-ugly. (FreeCiv and FreeCol for example.)

Writing a new game from scratch would be a lot more work than modifying existing code, regardless of whatever issues CK might have. It's difficult enough to find people that have interest in the game, programming skill, and the time to put into it to do a re-work, let alone do a completely new game. The only practical alternative to a licensed remake is waiting for Paradox to do the sequel on the new engine.

To licence the source code we need to know quite a lot of things. First, we have a power point with the important points we need to know: http://www.paradoxplaza.com/corporate/publishing (at the bottom). Then we need to know the name of your company ( we do not licence to individuals any longer), who will be part of the team, were are everyone based and a detailed design plan.

This is a lot, yes. It is nothing compared to actually creating CK 1.5 though.

noone else wants - so i think this thread is closed
