Greetings, first of my apologies for any murdering I may make of the English language.
To the topic.

EU:Rome has been for me the only disappointment I had with paradox(I Actually have a lot more games than my profile shows, just lazy to register them all), the fact that its less polished and much less involving than other Paradox games where the reason (too few provinces, simplistic politics and diplomacy, nowhere near as good-looking as other EU games and so on), of course this is just my opinion.

But with the coming of CK2 (a game I’m very interested in having) I must wonder, will we see the dynamics applied in this game, the graphics and the polished look and gameplay that caught my eye be applied to a future or revised version of EU:Rome (aka the paradox black sheep :p).

A revised or reworked EU:Rome would make this loyal player miss many nights and days in glee :p!

Thank you.

This topics seems to belong on the EU:R board more than it does here, really. You didn't really talk about CK2 at all aside from briefly mentioning that you're interested in it.

Anyway, EU:R is one of those games that desperately needs a new expansion. Anyone remember EU3 before In Nomine? It was pretty lacklustre, IMO. Who knows what Paradox is planning for the future? We'll have to wait and see.

Why don't we do a two-way list here between Rome and CK2? Here's my take of what should be adapted to CK2 from Rome and what might be best left behind. I am interested to hear what you guys think, especially experienced Rome players and modders.

Rome:
Good: the senate showed you in republics how popular an action would be
the council in monarchies showed who important characters would support for the next monarch
military traits allow for battle events like encircling the enemy, holding ground.
court titles that are moddable give another dimension to traits
character location
governors who can be appointed and after a few months removed from office
civil wars
some interesting diplomatic options like demand tribute, encourage disloyalty
fully moddable laws
moddable family name system, especially for Romans
Bad: "civilization" gave the Roman Republic too much of a free hand in conquest
"barbarian" tribes not really given a fair chance to expand
roaming barbarians sometimes acted erratically
hardcoded end date
alliance system allows for too many states joining every war
initial relations very high. Greek and Macedonians tended to be unhistorically friendly to one another
some diplomatic options that could have helped: annex tributary; vassalage; royal marriage

Well, can't say much about CK2 at this point, but in some ways it is the successor to EU Rome, with Doomdark playing a big role in the development of both CK2 and VV. 3D, rotating map and some other graphical similarities.

Just found out what CK2 is. The new combat model looks interesting and a little bit of that in a Rome 2 would be welcome.

A Rome overhaul for Crusader Kings 2 might be a first step, though you can only play monarchies, but empires will be in. The Byzantine Empire will be playable in the default 1066 start.

I agree with that the combat system of ck 2 seems the perfect choice for rome. especially the possibility of aligning 3 positions of your battleline is awesome. i have a feeling any of these weeks (days look to close) we will see rome 2 being mentioned by developers. Finaly Rome can fly.... :)

I really do hope that PI makes second Rome expansion that would put Rome on par with the rest of Clausewitz games. Considering that in the poll before Diwine Wind Rome was second most wanted expansion, and that it apparently sold very reasonably I think there would still be justification for giving the game some new life.

Seems to me republics being playable with specific mechanics and functions is the one really unique thing about Rome. It would be interesting to add that to CK2, but IMO there simply aren't enough republics in the CK2 timeframe to make it really worthwhile. I'd rather see the republic system in Rome developed and perfected. CK2's focus on characters is something Rome shares, albeit in a simplified form. Adding CK character elements to Rome would be excellent.

seems to me too

I hope they will recreate rome 2 in the same style as crusader kings 2. The reason this game is not as popular has nothing to do with interest in the period so i think it could become as succesful as ck2, if not more.

Rome 2 is likely to be a mix of CKII and Sengoku elements. I would personally like to see the game's geography extend into India and China. The game should be renamed too as the focus wouldn't be on just Rome anymore but the entire ancient world.

Ambitious but the good kind. I'd like to see it. In such a setting I'd have three interests, the northern european germanic tribes, the malaysia/indonesia area and the tengriist and central asia.

Though I imagine most of those areas would get shafted for more civilised and great empires.
