I just downloaded CK2 from Steam, and when I go to start the game I get the error message "CK2 has stopped working." In looking through some posts here, I see some others have had this kind of trouble with the demo.

I have an almost brand new computer and am up to date with drivers. I'm running Windows 7.

Is Paradox aware of this issue? Is there something I can send you to help troubleshoot it?

I'm really bummed, as I loved CK1 and was looking forward to playing CK2.

Same thing has been happening to me. I did some research, and it looks like EU3, EU2, and Hearts of Iron have been crashing on some Windows 7 machines for years. Only advice seems to be to update directx and your graphics drivers, but neither of those helped.

Very disappointed.

There are numerous possible causes for this, from bad video drivers to game issues. Please try what DoubleG did, and update your video drivers, and report back - if it's still a problem, make sure you have the right checksum too.

the game was developed under windows 7 so that is definitely not the reason. post a dxdiag (in code tags or as .txt) and make sure all redistributables and drivers are up to date.

You may have the same problem as me. Go into the CK2 folder (probably C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\crusader kings ii) and run the CK2.exe rather than the CK2game.exe.

For some reason the CK2game.exe is reliant on mscorjit.dll which I have had a problem with for a while (it is .net related) and I can't be bothered to re-install my OS. The game should then run fine, albeit outside of steam, but then there aren't any achievements etc so no biggie eh?

If it works drag a shortcut onto your desktop. Good luck!

So, this didn't work for me as originally explained (Going into properties and forcing 640 x 480) but what did work was:

Go to Documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings II
and open the Settings.txt file.
Change the size to x=640 y=480, save, and then run the ck2.exe file
Manually change the resolution and restart using Steam.

This is what worked for me. Good luck!
