Hello, I've been having a problem with that infinite initializing game bug. I have a MacBook, my MacOs is Sonoma 14. I've tried everything I could, such as verifying if game files are all good, I changed renderer from Vulkan to OpenGL(because on Vulkan it was crashing constantly), my user is administrator on this Mac, I even tried opening game in Debug mode, and nothing, it's still intializing forever with black screen. Is there any other things I could check, or is Crusader Kings now practically useless on my laptop?

If your model of Mac only has an Intel video system, that is probably the cause of your problem. This game now only uses Vulkan as a renderer, not openGL any longer. And Vulkan does not run well or in some cases at all on Intel video Macs. FYI this game has never been supported on that hardware platform since release, so really it's a matter of luck that it ever worked!

If that is the situation, all you can do is revert to the previous game version in the Steam betas tab for the game. Or play on any other machine you have access to with supported hardware. OR if you have Apple Bootcamp installed, play in Windows there. Or, if you've just bought the game, seek a refund from that store.

Other options include using an eGPU, or a hosting service such as GeForce Now.

If however that is not the case - ie that your Mac has AMD video or is on Apple Silicon - that's a different matter; let us know here and we'll look into your case more closely.

i see, thank you! i’ve already decided that i’ll try on other device that has Windows, but i’ll keep in mind that it won’t run on Mac.

It will run fine on Mac, but only on ones that meets the published minimum requirements:

  • Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-7820HQ
  • Memory: 12 GB RAM
  • Graphics: AMD® Radeon™ PRO 560 (4 GB)
