Would there be any rule against him being a Pictish ruler in England? Hell, we've already got Silesians.
Half-Silesian technically. :D

But yes, that would be just fine. It may spark in-character repercussions later from Anglo-Saxon players, but if someone wants to play a foreign character I assume being a foreigner is part of the appeal.

Dynasty: Hengings (colloquially "of Kent/Cant")
Title(s): Titular Lathewalds of Cant, Hundræds of Cantwareburh (Before the Crown: Dukes of Kent, Eorls of Canterbury)
Head: Mul Henging

Familial biography: Borne of the Jutish brothers Hengest and Horsa, who arrived as foederatii of the Romano-Britons against the Pictish raiders. Their descendents would populate and colonise the part of the Saxon shore for generations, and would be the first post-Roman kingdom to rise out of ashes of the dark ages and greet their civilised brothers across the ocean in Francia. Some historians argue that the continuation of the Jute language in daily use in Cant is due to the succession of a clear line of Lathewalds from the establishment of the Kingdom of Cant in ~488 until their bowing before the Kings of Mercia in 700, removing the need for force. To which the Kings (now Dukes) of Cant were allowed to keep their lives, and in turn their culture. The current Hengings are loyal (as expected) to the King in Tamworth.

Family:

- Mul Henging, Lathewald of Cant (49): Current Lathewald of Kent. A man of strong thirst, his joyous days of hunting ended when he fell from his horse and broke his leg, leaving a permanent limp. Not a perfect man, having taken to ale, he is a devout Christian and a proud head of his family.

- Ælre, wife to Mul (37): A member from one of the few prominent Saxon families in Cant, she is a wallflower, without issue or happiness in life.

-- Wihtred Henging, Hundræd of Cantwareburh (37): Mul's eldest son and heir to the Lathewaldom of Cant. An airy man, taken with coin and Christ, to the mixed displeasure of his father and brothers.

--- Osfala, wife of Wihtred (20): An ambitious woman from the family of one of Mul's shieldbearers, she is rumoured to be a witch, but in reality has an all too unhealthy interest in botany.

-- Alric Henging, Shieldbearer and Hæscorl of Cant (33): A shieldbiter, Alric is a man with little tact or civility.

Hengest & Horsa (Semi-Legendary Co-Kings): ~455 - ~488
Oisc: 488 - 512
Octha: 512 - 540
Eormenric: 540 - 589

These are just the standard "historical" flags of Kent, so if you want something different/changed, Dadarian, just let me know.

Because players are required to write quickly readable posts, we also expect players to respond to each other promptly. If all you can manage is fifteen minutes between classes or during your lunch break, that's just fine: We'd rather have a player that writes nothing but three-sentence posts than a brilliant author/historian that never posts at all.
I feel rather weirdly with this statement, as I actualy study history at my uni :).
Of course, I'll try to be active, but mostly outside Tuesdays and Wendsdays, as those are filled with my subjects and other activities.

This seems interesting, I’m gonna try this one out.

Dynasty
: Of Suffolk
Title(s): Earl of Suffolk and Norfolk
Head: Aethelwold Of Suffolk

Aethelwold Of Suffolk (age 46): A soft spoken man who despite ruling over the “folk” would much prefer spending his time engrossed in literature. Despite this he tries his best to rule fairly and is good at managing the daily comings and going at court, much to his displeasure at the constant interruptions in his studies. Aethelwold is known to be poor in the art of subtlety and detests intrigue and its usage. Rather common mocked behind his back as the Earl of Kindling due to his skinny build and there have even been rumors that he is a craven who would never wield a weapon. Despite this he has a grasp of strategy, but rarely steps out of his castle, let alone his lands.

Alfric of Suffolk (age 20): The only son of Aethelwold, Alfric is a near polar opposite of his father, being a military man who lacks in management and the arts. Despite this he is surprisingly good at wielding the pen and is known to write letters, often sent to whoever is his current mistress, which infuriates his father to no end.

If may I ask, may I create separate thread for orders?
I want to keep them public because I don't want to keep them on chatish mess.

I plan to do that myself once the first turn starts, actually. :)
I feel just weirdly with whole "chating" scheme.
My last try at 1866 failed mostly because of chat anarchy.

No, this is just the general OOC area: I also handle questions and signups here to make things more accessible, but all of the actual gameplay, orders, etc. will take place in the subforum.

I understand, but there's also another "chat" mantained by BlackCrown's-given subplayers. It's a bit messisch because they keep telling there about their "we'll conquer this throne" tactics.

The chats not really about the “we’ll conquer the throne,” those statements are largely jokes and/or general goals in the given future. Many of us even stated we support the king. Plus, official discussions are kept to the court thread, and that is just a “off topic” chat. While we do try to gain each other’s cooperation, that is still kept and stated in the court thread.

I'm not telling about you though. I know that you just want to make a petition about enstablishing a duchy by diplomacy, I'm just refering about anybody else.
Also, I don't feel the jokes.
Please, don't take this personally. I agree that you just try to find sufficient way to spend their time on leisure, but practically I can't focus there because of overestimation of spam-like posts, which aren't about my interest.
If you won't consider this as something like leaving down your political teaching, I'm just willing to keep it away for some time, just because there's nothing interesting to hear, apart of those "we'll do that" plans.
I'll keep communication directly with you, but there's little activities, which I can do there.

Well for the record, there's no requirement to actually read this thread: This is just a place to hang out and discuss the game. If anything ever needs player attention I'll ever PM/ping that player or post an announcement in the subforum. :)

May I actually post my first order in the Ordnungsplatz?
Because I feel like keeping everything on OOC actually causes only chaos and I want finally to begin with.

@Dadarian @DragonOfAtlantis Both approved (although I have to ask, where does the title "Lathewald" come from?), and you can make your courts. I put together character stats, and will get title stats up shortly. :)

To start off, the central conceit of my character (& Kent) is that the Jutish influences of the region did not fade away in the mid 600s due to Wessex and Mercian intervention and the establishment of a line of Saxon kings.

Now there is no official record of the Jutish language beyond some names and the odd word, however what is known is that Kent was divided into sections and subsections. Lathewalds are my (admittedly made up) possessive of the Lathe, which is a uniquely Kentish administrative unit used by the Jutes to subdivide the region. I know it is more of a basis akin to a rural county level, but the original word lǽð (land &/or land possession) makes me take liberties in it as a titular crown in which to put on the Henging's head.

Hundreds (or my Jutised "Hundræds") are also Anglo-Saxon divisions, although this was used throughout the Saxon Shore. Hundreds were really the lowest level of administration level, serving as a once-a-month gatherings for issues of justice and petty policy (which man got the pig). Typically formed from a meeting of 13 freemen, and doesn't need the overview of the central manor owner.

Now, given that the Jutes have been reigned in on their titles, I took the liberty of the Hengings utilising these titles and expanding them upward as an expression of their language. A Lathe(wald) was no longer a county but a duchy, while a Hundræd was no longer a base meeting place but a county level administrative unit.

Therefore there would be 1 Lathewald, and between 5 - 7 Hundræds. The Hundræd will be replaced by some similar unit which I haven't bothered to research yet in order to make the crossroads to the capitol a cohesive set up of administrative units.

Well you can't post orders yet at all since we're still in the pre-game (I plan to start either on Friday or Tuesday at this rate). Once we start I'll open up a thread for players to post orders in.
By the way, @Schlieffen, the link in your signature is linked to the main forum menu instead of the subforum.
Or the link was so old that it used an out-of-date format. :D

Sounds good. I just couldn't find any information, so I was wondering where the title came from. :)

Oh, and in exchange for the duke-level title I limited your initial realm to just the one province. This obviously isn't set in stone, but since at least one other player has getting a duchy as their initial ambition I figured there needed to be something to offset being a little higher in rank.
