I know this might sound repetitive from many other cloud save (ironman) issue. But the similar posts did not quite answer my questions

Game mode: Ironman
Game saving SemiAnnually
Mods: Tiny outliner, UI overhaul,

I was playing on my desktop for 1 hour and when I exit the game it should automatically cloud saved as instructed.

I was able to successfully load the cloud save progress from my desktop when I started playing on my laptop.

About 5-ish hours in, my laptop forced a restart due to dog**** Microsoft windows update.

When the restart finished, I was able to "Resume" to the progress I was playing on. Then I played for another 2 hours. So far No problem to this point.

The next day, when I trying to play on my desktop again when I "Resume" the cloud save shows the rollback progress of 100 years. ( cloud save from 7 hours ago). Yes I clicked "Resume" instead of the "Play" Button on Paradox Launcher. My hypotheses is that the desktop cloud save is not sync up to the laptop one, but since I clicked resume it's then making the cloud save sync to the desktop one instead.

I went back on my laptop, and sure enough, the cloud save is the same as desktop. (7 hours ago)

Went to check local save, there are NO local saves.

Anyway is there anyway i can get my save file back? In the future Should I just turn the Cloud save >>> off and use Local Save instead to prevent sht like this from happening again? Instead I just use usb drive to transfer the local save between computers?

This sucks and sad. I just want a solution and future prevention.....

Thanks for the feedback,

Steam Cloud saves write to the local disk, then sync up to their cloud when you exit the game. If the MS update reboots your machine in the middle of playing, that can't happen of course. You can see what is up there here:

Your only hope is the local cached copy of the cloud save on the laptop, which would be at .../Steam/userdata/yourSteamID#/281990/remote/save games/

As far as preventing this goes, first would be to set Windows 10 to do its updates late at night or early in the morning when you wouldn't be playing! Aside from that both local and cloud saves have potential issues in Ironman because they rely on a single save file; on eidea would be to make a manual copy of that each time you start or end a play session so you don't lose so much progress.

Thank you. I was not able to recover my old file, but instead, I keep playing where I left off (The rollback version) I was able to crush the galaxy in my first iron man play. I am new and I am about 50 hours in.

I will make copy of the savefile now on.
