Coal to Oil conversion

What are the conditions for converting coal to oil in HOI2 (with stony road)?

I have researched tech up to advanced but only get 32 oil a day even with an excess coal of over 400 units a day.

DO i need to actually "do something" in order to get the conversion rate higher?

So far we did not modify anything from vanilla HOI in that area.

The max amount of coal converted is not based on how much coal you have, it's based on your IC (base IC I think but not sure on that). If you have more than 2 times as much coal as you do oil then you start converting based on whatever conversion tech you have.

So for example if you have an extra 1000 coal coming in you won't convert any more coal to oil than if you have zero extra coal coming in unless your coal stockpile drops below 2x your oil stockpile.

Not very intuitive but it works. One nice thing about it is that it makes it easy to purposely drive down your coal stockpiles far enough that you don't convert anything until after you've discovered a decent level of conversion tech (unless you really want to convert based on a 10 to 1 ratio...)

AH ok - cheers. I dove right into HOI2 with HSR2.0 after enver playing it before but having vague memories of HOI.

hmm... so then even with the best conversion technologies the actual amount of oil produced is really rather small... my 360 IC germany could only convert 36 oil from "lord knows" how much coal (i had a lot of coal!).

Right then.. back to a new campaign and plan on starting off with more oil!!!

Interesting, the way you are describing it is how it worked in v1.1, in the v1.2 readme they stated:
- Increased effect from energy to oil conversion.
- Conversion cap for oil-conversion can now be above 100% and still use all IC.

Which I thought addressed the recommendation we had made that improved techs would give you more oil in addition to being more efficient usage of your coal.

Dang it sure would be nice if Paradox let us know how the game works.

Not sure, but I thought they were talking about the fact that the last oil conversion tech gives you 1.1 oil for 1 energy. Maybe they changed how much IC is used as well, I hadn't noticed since I never have issues with oil.

Oil event

Could be added an event when you discover a new energy to fuel tech? When you discover a new tech of these you recive the option to convert XXX of energy in XXX of oil, depending the conversion rate that you discover.
