First off, I'm honestly not one for historical roleplay, so this aar will try and present what went on in the world in a "matter of fact" way that I hope will be nonetheless interesting. I'm fairly experienced with competetive multiplayer Victoria II, and so are most of the players on the large nations in this game. I wouldn't say it is the most competitive game I've been in, but everything will be presented through the lense of players trying to do what they think is best for their country. Not historical figures existing in 19th century Europe. At the risk of pontificating a bit, I'm hoping to give the community an insight into what competitive Victoria II looks like, because I honestly think this is the greatest game ever made, and I want the community to continue growing and evolving. Plus I just like talking about people's strategies and pretending I'm running a country (but don't we all). I'm going to start with a brief overview of the current state of the world and then try and go back through the entire game from the beginning to the present and talk about what went on. So, anyways. On with the show.

There's currently a great war going on that just started between France, Austria, and the South German Federation and the North German Federation, the UK, the USA, Japan, and their various smaller allies. The game has mostly been spent in two informal coalitions with the UK and USA heading up one and France and Russia heading up another. It had sort of devolved into a stalement where the UK and USA held naval superiorty and defensible terrain in India and Africa and the European powers (NGF was sided with them) had a massive brigade advantage leading to a stand off that has lasted for most of the game. The French alliance decided to go for the NGF though, probably hoping to catch them off guard and get some really nice land without too much trouble. At this point, I'd say the war favors the North German coalition, but I'm on that side (the USA) so of course I'd say that. I don't want to get into too much detail because I plan on covering pretty much everything that led up to this, but I'll post some screenshots that cover the main state of the world. Note Russia is allied with the French block but isn't in the war because of a truce they have with the UK.

Looking at the world map, nothing too crazy. France blobbed a bit more than is usual due to them pretty much having European hegemony and Spain not being particularly successful. The UK released their African colonies as a player-controlled dominion. Germany hasn't formed, which is to be expected given the giant European coalition that has existed for much of the game, but more on that later.

Here's the current country ranks. They honestly aren't the most important thing in the world and don't 100% indicate a country's power, but I figured people would be curious. The top tier countries are the UK, USA, France, NGF, and Russia and are all pretty much even industrially.

Looking at the ledger, Russia has the biggest army (1000), followed up by the UK and USA (~800 each, the USA is only half mobilized and everyone else is fully mobilized). Then there is France and the NGF (650ish), followed closely by Austria (550). Japan has around 400 and it falls quickly from there.

There was a naval battle right at the beginning of the war where the combined Anglo-American navy rolled the Franco-Austrian navy, which was to be expected given their relative sizes.

Here is the current state of the NGF where all the real fighting is going on. There will be some occupations in the colonies but those will easily won by the German alliance, given their naval superiority.

There's some fighting ongoing by Bavaria, but the war has only been going on for a couple of months and neither side has pushed too hard yet.

As I said before, the game has been relatively peaceful up until now, and this is the first major war.

I'll start going over the whole game in greater detail sometime (hopefully tomorrow), so stay tuned!

This sounds very interesting indeed.

This should be interesting to see. It's always fun to take part in such multiplayer experiences with other humans than the AI, and to also see how the world changes with the working and scheming of humans behind the screen rather than the AI doing, well, whatever it is that the AI does...

Looking forward to this!
Cheers!
