Someone was going to have to start this thread, and since I started this thread for Hearts of Iron, I thought it would be fun to start it here too...

I am also assuming that like Victoria, there is a goodies folder with the stuff to make CoA designs usuable for the game, so while some of us wait, work can be done on CoA's and such... whether they be fictional or more historical...

So let's get this going!

Knowing the extents of debates we got about CoA amongst betas, I guess one thread is not enough, we will need to have a whole forum dedicated to CoA

And another one for dynasties and family tree ;)

Well that seems like it could be a possibility I guess....

I was thinking of the salad bar approach, but a forum onto itself for those topics... that could be interesting...

Well, as long as we have this thread, I'd like to go on the record as the guy who created MrT's arms, which are currently in his avatar:
T.gif

I'd be willing to make others too. :p

Wow! What a great looking CoA! :p

I will have to go and dig up the thread from the GD forum where there was a discussion on CoAs and where I pointed out the design considerations that are important from a game perspective. Could be useful...

Blazons?

Technically, a "blazon" is the description of a CoA in the legalese of heraldry. It's been a long time since I last studied it but, for example, the blazon for the one MacRaith did would be something like "Gules, on a bar or 'Miserio Nugatorem', in chief a 'T' or, in bas three challaces or" or something like that.

I think he was refering to "Blazons" as one of the shareware that enable you to create CoA, MrT :D

this is not CK, but to start posting something :p

I really do have to compliment both MacRaith and Txini on their excellent taste of subject matter. :)

Thessalonike

Hi, I am interested in Byzantine Vassals CoA. Are there the real ones in the game or are fictional?
I am most interested in the CoA of Thessalonike (North Greekmacedonian province). In the screenshots there are two CoA. One which is aparently the "Star of Vergina" and another which is two horizontical stripes one small red and one big white. Are these true the CoA/flags of Thessalonike?
Another good forum member, Lepper King, have provided me with the information CoA of the Kingdom of Thessaloniki at the time of 1295. Here it is
thessaloniki.gif
(The CoA made by Kaigon and Birger Jarl) The problem with this CoA is that isn't Byzantine at all. but the CoA of the latin Kingdom of Thessaloniki. The other two (the star and the red-white stripes) ar genuine byzantine?

Also how can I put this CoA as my avatar?

Thank you!

You need to reach 3000 posts first...

Well, that thread sure started fast. I'll be the first to post a correction:

The arms of Aarau are as this:
ch-ag001.gif

The one in the game is from the 19th century, and the arms of the then-newly created canton ;). (Besides, I disapprove of it being called Aarau. The area contains the famous Habsburger's old family castle (called, you guessed it, Habsburg. Aarau itself was founded by the Kyburgers, who were, if I recall correctly, vassals of the Habsburger) as well as one of Switzerland's most important citys (and an important trade town in medieval times, being one of the European centres of the silk industry), Zürich. But I know those things can't be changed anymore ;))

Of course it did! :)

With over 1000 provinces to research, there was a lot of ground to cover, and some places only received the most cursory of checks. So any good, well-researched information on CoAs would be most appreciated! :)

Yes... that was what I was referring to... I played with it a bit, but found it not to my liking(mainly because I have to change my Font Size settings to use it)

Dare I ask what that phrase means?
Have a look at the CoA that MacRaith posted:

T.gif

Now look at the CoA that Txini posted:

kgt.jpg

Now have a look at my current avatar.

Now that you have, I'm sure that you'll agree that they have incredibly good taste. :) :p

I hope my comment counts as "well researched" ;).

I have my info from International Civic Heraldry, where you'll see just what I said... I have no idea how old the arms of the city are, but Swiss towns and cities almost always use medieval arms (if they exist, of course...). This may be one of the reason why our flags are always square...
