Cohen Game - Thur 20 APR next session if enough

Due to last game got screwed by some player, I'll start a new one, as Germany again, hoping this time we won't have player with such low fairplay to coup the Italian player or so.
Since we start in '36, we'll have time to discuss, or eventually replace players in case they disagree. As stated in the end, breaking rules could lead to a substitution of the player.

Here the House Rules.
I'm open to discussion, but not that much.

HoI 2 1.3a Cohen's Game Rules:

Starting Campaign is 1936.
10 Players allowed:

Core Setup :

Axis -
Germany (Cohen)
Italy (Predator)
Japan (Addi Copperfield)

Western Allies -
USA (to fit in, France just fallen)
UK (Polo)

Comintern -
Soviet Union (Geofactor // Tzare)

Additional Players:
(no human players in South America)
We had numberous subs taking over various Minors.
On Axis side Hungary and Romania are well settled and ready to have a human player.
On Allied side, I dunno really. I don't know their situation, except that Canada is going to lose 3 divisions in France, which are encircled at the Maginot Line.

Axis Minor Avaiable: BUL, ROM, HUN - SPAIN has to be allied up. FIN if survives the Winter War can ally up.
Allied Minor Avaiable: CAN, AUST, S.AFR, N.ZEL.

4 slots total for Minors.
___________________________________________________________
Fairplay Rules:
note: Unless specified, Allies are referred to both W.Allies and Comintern.

- Germany and UK are "Alliance Leaders". They choose the overall plan, and allied players should do their best to accomplish the tasks given, and follow orders.
To Alliance leaders can tell what to do, not how to do. (example, Ger Player tell Ita Player to hold Lybia. It stops there, then it's up to Ita Player to setup things)
- Comintern plays separate from the Allied. They can talk, and they can coordinate as they wish, but either Allied or Comintern or Axis will win. 3 sided game.
- DO NOT Strat move units away from Border when at War with that Bordering nation. Even if you do not risk encirclement
- DO NOT disband troops doomed to death.
- DO NOT exploit supply of Puppets and Allies by parking troops inside them
- DO NOT keep wars active to benefit of the halved consumer's good.
- DO NOT coup other players.
- FOR whatever else I could forget to write here, and you feel it could be dirty, ask in General chat after pausing the game.
- Nukes are not used at all in this game. Nuclear Research will just enable the Nuclear Ships. Nukes are forbidden.
- DO NOT deploy more than 24 DIVs in Urban locations.

Half Historical Game:

- DoW Rules:
No DoW except via events before Danzig event, for Axis.

W.Allies cannot DoW except Germany when Germany attack Poland. (so if Italy isn't in Axis, UK-France cannot DoW Italy)

Axis Minors have 1 free DoW before Danzig to represent expansionism. They cannot DoW another listed above Axis Minor unless Germany agrees.

USA and Soviet Union will have specific rules.

After 1942 Allies can DoW freely any Minor still Neutral.

- Political & Economical Rules

- Starting Trades shouldn't be cancelled until the 2 parts are at war.
- Game will be paused at 2nd January to allow Axis players to trade first. When Axis players are ready, Allied players can trade.

- Nations cannot be politically touched until 1st Jan 1939. Exception: Players can influence other players of the same team.
- Axis can start the Political actions on AI Nations at 1st Jan 1939. Allies at 1st Feb 1939 (due to Allies having more money).
- National Spain cannot be Allied until the Vichy event. Not by Axis, nor by Allied.
- Axis Minor Nations cannot be couped by Allied Players.
- Allies cannot ally up any Minor which is eventually at war with an Axis power before Danzig (ie Italy at war with Yugo for national claims).
- Allies cannot help Republican Spain anyhow, and should not send aid via event.

USA Join War Rules:
- 1st Jan 1942 unless something else happens:
3 Months after UK Homeland has suffered an Invasion (except Airborne troops). If the Invasion is repelled the timer resets.
3 Months after Japan has DoWed Soviet Union
If DoWed before (should happen this)

USA Joining W.Allies: 1st Jan 1942 or according to the event of above, in case or earlier date:
UK Homeland - can join W.Allies
Japan DoW SU - can join W.Allies only if Japan is Axis
Pearl Harbor Event - can join W.Allies only if Japan is Axis

USA can immediately DoW a Major Power that land / transport troop in South America.
A minor power in south america, fighting with his own forces in the sector, even if allied with Axis, doesn't provoke USA intervention.

German Rules:
Must accept Historical R-M Pact, and respect it (giving land to SU).
Germany can void the NAP with SU signed with R-M Pact.
Must take Vichy event.
German player can ask for a save before any Annexation event, and ask for a rehost in case it go wrong.

France Rules:
If Human Player he must accept Vichy. After Vichy the game is rehosted and the player takes over on USA.
France Army should defend France Homeland, and not being evacuated elsewhere.
France Player cannot build any Field Fortification until 1940.

Soviet Rules:
SU must accept and respect the R-M pact.
SU cannot DoW the Axis before 1st Jan 1942.
SU cannot DoW any minor except via Event. SU cannot DoW a minor with Event if this belong to Axis, nor he can have any claim on it.
SU must accept the 1st offered peace of any Minor attacked via event (like Finland or Romania) which should grant the land SU asked for, incase of Humand Player in Axis Minor.
SU must accept Bitter Peace if Offered.
SU DoW Exception: if Axis DoW any Asian nation (not belonging to W.Allies) bordering SU, SU can DoW the same nation and get all the bordering provinces to have a "security belt" at his homeland, but cannot go further.

Japan Rules:
Japan should accept the Pearl Harbour Event.
Japan cannot conquer land easternmost than India / Tibet until Australia and Hawaii are under Japan control.
Japan Fleet cannot leave the Pacific sector until USA is defeated.

End Note:
I could have forgot something. Feel free to make it clear, and we can discuss about it.
If you feel you're somehow cheating the rules, exploiting, or doing something wrong, talk about.
In case something not written here, but which could be considered cheating, exploiting, or wrong, could bring to a rehost on previous / fixed Save, with the substitution of the infracting player.

Game has started with 5 Players, without France.
UK player to started the setup of France, and other players settled minors (moving sliders, putting a production queue, and launching researches).

Germany - Cohen
Italy - Predator
Japan - James Bond
SU - Alexander Schull
UK - Awawa (or something similar, don't remember now, sorry)

___________
Next session is scheduled 18.00 CET on Saturday 15. The group should go on til early night (2 AM or so safe exceptions).
Players missing could be subbed as well.
We've spots for a France Players (which will go to USA after Vichy), and 4 minors.

The game proceeded til Nov 39.

Until Danzig event, nothing new since the game was historical.

After a first session where the Poles massed their whole army in Warsaw and the Germany got invaded by the W.Allied army (mostly french plus minor commonwealth troops), admitting the defeat and revising a bit the urban rules and tweaking USA rules in Allied favor as a "vae victis", and the French player going to USA, the game restarted again at Danzig event.

In 2 weeks the Germans managed to take out Poland, with the Polish army still concentrated in Warsaw (but without the French pushing in Germany this time). A total encirclement and massive bombing ensured the victory after a struggle in the urban environment.
Sweden, Bulgaria and Italy joined the Axis, adding their forces to Germany and Hungary.

After the conquest of Poland the Germans gave the promised land to the Soviets, which had annexxed one of the three Baltic States, and were preparing for the Winter War.

Joint military operation of Bulgaria, Italy and Hungary brought to a quick demise of Yugoslavia, which army was in chaos due to a recent coup organized by nazi agents.

The Italians in Afrika advanced into Egyptian land, only to meet the motorized forces of the United Kingdom at Sidi Barrani (as historical) and to start a retreat to the safety of the fortifications of Tobruk.

The German forces, secured the Poland, started to move to the French border, meanwhile the French army with a BEF of Canadians and Australians deployed all along the Maginot Line.

In Afrika the UK spearheads attempted to encircle Tobruk but were pushed back by the Italians. In the end anyway the British Army reached the position to launch a full scale assault on the desertic fortress, managing to push the Italians back to the Marmarica area.

The Imperial Japan joinex Axis, attacking fiercely in India. The USA worried about the strenghtening of the Axis, prepared to join the war.

Meanwhile the Supermarina started its efforts to bring fresh troops in Afrika, the Germans unleashed a full scale offensive in the Ardennes, encircling the Maginot Line and rushing for Paris with fast divisions.
The French moved their army to prevent the encircling of the fortifications, but didn't managed to prevent the german tanks to reach the neighbours of Paris, where a bitter fight took place with the French reserves holding the river line.

A good coordination of Supermarina with Luftwaffe forces and the Regia Aeronautica resulted in some UK ships sank, with minimal loss of the Italian navy. The UK poured more ships from the Indian Ocean sector to reinforce the Mediterranean Fleet, with the RAF not showing up.
Hungarian troops landed as well in Afrika, bringing the numbers on the paper to an equation, but the UK army was still superior in training and veichles.

The German panzers sweeped around Paris, and with a concentric assault doomed the French capitol resistance. Little after the French government surrendered begging for the Republic of Vichy, which was agreed by the Nazis. This left a surrounded commonwealth garrison in the Maginot Line, with no way to retreat.

As the Italo-Hungarian troops fought bitterly in N.Afrika to regain land, the Sovients started to march in Finnish territory, overwhelming the Mannerheim Line defences and fortifications with sheer strenght of numbers.

It seemed that the Commonwealth was in a "stand alone" position, but the USA joined the war at their side restoring the balance.

The game kept on until Sept 40.

The Mediterranean Theather was full of action til Spring 40, when the Axis Afrika Armies were totally defeated.

After a long stalemate inbeetween Benghazi and Tobruk, where the armies battled savagely for that useless land the Commonwealth Forces breached into the Hungaro-Italian defences.

Spain and Portugal joined the Axis, and Turkey was invaded by Romanian and German troops and then reduced to a puppet nation.
Crete fell under Hispano-Italian landing forces, resulting in a unconditional surrender of the Greek Army.

Then a bitter fight took place in the sea, bringing to the bottom of the Mediterranean many UK ships, still due to heavy combination of Supermarina and Luftwaffe. But the showing up of the RAF and USAF estabilished after a while who was ruling there.

As the motorized corps of the UK trampled the Italian retreating as fast as they could to Agedabia, the Hungarians troops were left as rearguard and were forced to surrender to the enemies.

Estabilished naval supremacy as the Luftwaffe was busy elsewhere the UK landed an army at Tripoli which marched to close in a deathly embrace the Italian Army in Agedabia. But a quick reaction from the mobile italian corp wiped out those advancing troops, almost securing the way for Tripoli.
But the rest of the Italian army was caught still unorganized and retreating by the advancing Commies, which managed to achieve an astonishing success, defeating almost 60 divisions out of 70 of the total Axis force in Afrika.

The crippled Italian army tried to reach Tripoli for evacuate the area, where Spanish ships were awaiting to bring them to the continental safety.
The W.Allied fleet sallied forth to prevent any kind of evacuation and inflicted heavy losses, including 2 battleships, to Supermarina, which left his ports to meet the menace.

After such a defeat the Luftwaffe rushed back to Italian airbases and started to bomb again any W.Allied fleet was found in the open sea. After losing many minor ships, and a battleship and a carrier, the W.Allied fleet rebased quickly. The Luftwaffe pursued the ships striking Malta harbour first, and then attempted to strike Benghazi, but Benghazi was out of range of the fighters and the German bombers was easy prey for the Allied Air Forces.

Meanwhile some of the troops managed to escape, the Italian Mobile Corp, who was operating not on the coast, was cut off, and doomed to be destroyed sooner or later, out of supply.

As the Allies launched massive air bombing to Sicily, the Luftwaffe left behind a huge fighter force to protect his ally. In the end the Luftwaffe lost a lot of planes but no landing on Italy happened.

USA forces attacked the newly made puppet of Axis, Turkey, resulting in a new, small front, to sent troops in. No big achievements, nor clashes of troops happened there.

The North Europe:

As the front there being passive (the Soviets cannot DoW anyone before 1942, and the German player scared to engage the Soviets with the USA already at war) Norway was invaded by Swedish and Finnish forces (Finland joined the Axis after Soviets stripped them of some provinces due to Winter War), and shared by beetween the 2 minors.
Denmark was annexxed by Germany.

As Spain joined the Axis, Gibilar fell quickly.
UK unwisely choiced to land in France, for some obscure reason. With all Wermacht sitting around, what was immediately a successfull landing ended with 7 UK divisions raising hands closed beetween the sea and the panzers.

The Luftwaffe, when not needed in the Mediterranean, tried to bomb the UK factories, but it ended up with many losses due to heavy anti airfract batteries, and low results. The attack was soon nullified by German High Command.

While the UK focused on the Mediterranean, achieving huge results and exposing whole South Europe coast to landings, like the vulnerable stomach of a drake, Germany prepared the Sealion, which occurred successfully in Summer 40.
Took by surprise by landing forces and airborne operations, with no Navy nor RAF ready to help, the German forces managed to land in few days meeting almost no opposition. A quick counterattack was launched by UK forces against the beachead, but was easily repelled by the elite german troops, which immediately counterattacked and encircled those fifteen british divisions. The rest of the isle fell quickly, except Scapa Flow where some UK divs have barricaded to make a last stand.

An expedition was sent in late summer to conquer UK owned Ireland, but was met by fierce opposition, as the UK convoyed a dozen of divisions there.
Dublin was taken as new, temporary, capitol of UK.

The rest of the World:

A very marginal fight took place in South Afrika, as Portughese troops advanced a bit, only to face a heavy counterattack of New Zeland and South Afrikan superior forces, forcing them to withdraw and prolly evacuate.

About the Asiatic front, I know little tbh.
India was overann by Japan troops, but UK sent troops with USA as well.
Some major naval battles took place beetween Japanese Imperial Navy and USA Navy, with few losses for Japans (2 battlecruisers still) and more by USA (1 BB, 1 CV and many minor ships and transports).

In the end, the situation seems in good shape for the Axis, but with USA with 500+ IC, and Soviets with 400 divisions, in late 41 or early 42 the odd can easily change, due to German manpower problems forcing them to rely on Axis Minor forces to cover most of the beaches and secondary front - outdated troops with not skilled generals and doctrines.

I personally find the game very interesting, atypical a bit with USA already at war and SU still at peace, and for sure more balanced, with an happy German to not see a Japanese which rush into Persia and such to show up in the Med.
I've still found some improvements to apply to rules to.

Game went on til 5th April 41.

The Axis foreseeing in '42 a big clash against the Soviets, which were growing stronger and stronger and prolly concerned about the Axis expansionism, choiched to secure the Mediterranean as first objective for 1941.

The Axis forces prepared for the offensive in the Middle East and then unleashed their power against the Iraqui land, where a combined army of english and american troops were helding the line.
The German Panzers, assisted by Romanian mountain corp and by Italian fast divisions breached the W.Allied line and swiftly invaded the Iraq, forcing him to surrender and to became annexed. 8 UK divisions where encircled and destroyed, meanwhile the USA forces withdrew to the safety of Palestine.
A fresh army of USA troops landed in Bashra to prevent the Iraq government to fall, but the USA command wisely choiced to evacuate before the Panzers would have annihilated the expedition force.
The Japan Imperial Fleet moved to block the USA Navy evacuating troops from Bashra, as German Luftwaffe covered with planes the sea, but the USA ships were unfindable, and sneaked away somehow.
(note: since I don't know USA moves, it could be that the divisions didn't went to Palestine but were strat moved to Bashra for evacuation - this is unknown to me).

The Axis air and naval recon spotted the bulk of UK African Army to move to Palestine to face the incoming menace, as more Panzers were sent to the theather of operations.
Italian infantry divisions took position at the Iraqui beaches and in the inland to prevent heavy partisan activity, or to defend from a sudden Persia joining W.Allies.

Then the battle for Jerusalem occurred, with a mixed forces of 40 divisions of the Allied against 26 about of the Axis. With Germany suffering from the first time the W.Allied air superiority. On the other hand the Axis units were all armored and motorized, meanwhile most of the W.Allied troops were infantrymen.
The Germans OKM sent extra supplies to allow the Panzer Armee a stronger offensive which resulted in W.Allied troops defeated thrice, first in Amman, then in Haifa and then in Jerusalem again.

The Italian Supermarina was attempting a multiple landing, to capture the airbases of Beirut, Tel Aviv, and secure Gaza to wipe out the W.Allied army withdrawing from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv. But the UK Med.Fleet was promptly in action, as the UK leaders suspected that kind of maneuver. The Italian Supermarina was forced to flee in the captured port of Cyprus, losing all the slow and cumbersome transports to the fire of english guns.
German submarines, based in Italian mainland to protect it from any invasion, were redirected to assist the Italian Supermarina, but they came on late, only to find the UK ships anchored safely in Alexandria. Still the UK Med.Fleet suffered some loss in the fight, even because Luftwaffe planes from Ankara and Cyprus stormed the enemy ships.

The encircling operation failed from Sea, was successfully from land. The UK Army lost a lot of divisions at Gaza, outmaneuvered by the Axis forces. Next target was the Suez Channel. Suffering heavy bombing from USA planes the Axis advanced til Suez, meanwhile the Allied reformed a line in Port Said.
As soon as the aribases of Tel Aviv and Beirut were refitted, Luftwaffe moved in and provided air cover and bombing operations against the W.Allied positions.
With German subs blockading the Alexandria harbour, more Italian troops were going to land in Alexandria, with German airborne troops ready to assist from Athens, as in Alexandria most of the W.Allied planes were based. The UK Med.Navy sallied forth again, and a huge naval battle took place, resulting in a pyrrhyc victory for the Med.Navy, which first sent to the repair bay the submarines and then catched the transports.

The land armies clashed again fighting for the channel, but the rallied army of commonwealth and the UK forces didn't managed to hold their side of the channel and were forced to withdrew inland. Soon after the Cairo and Alexandria fell in Axis hands as the UK Army was pursued inland and pushed into the southern Egypt.

____

In South Afrika the Portughese Army suffered multiple defeats, encircled by Free French troops by north, and South Afrika and New Zealand forces by south. Two divisions were evacuated successfully to Portugal mainland, but other 4 divisions were destroyed as the sector was secured by Allied Forces.

The W.Allied took the Canarian Isles, after having suffered losses from the Portugal Navy.

____

The USA in Feb 41, seen the defeat in Afrikan sector, attempted a landing on UK mainland, in order to retake it and bringing Churchill back to London.
But the Axis defences were ready and repelled two landing attempts, meanwhile the Luftwaffe bombed the USA convoys and navy supporting the landing attempts.
The Sweden fleet engaged the USA Navy as well, suffering losses at start, but then managed to catch a smaller squadron of transport, sinking them.
The Kriegsmarine engaged as well later the USA Navy sinking 1 light cruiser before to being forced to retreat to Brest to avoid losses.
The UK instead, thanks to better knowledge of their homeland, found a landing spot on a remote northern isle that somehow German troops didn't took, so thanks to a portual infrastructure still in their hands, many divisions soon were menacing the German scottish territory.

____
About Japan sector ... mmm I know only that Jap has landed in Australia and had some naval clash with USA Navy, to well it's better if USA or JAP players write an AAR as well.
